Hi Guys, sorry to bother you with another request I just recieved an update from the parts manager with Infiniti, do you think he knows what he's talking about? Should I pursue the dealer parts, or just go to my performance shop of choice? I don't know what to say to this guy???

It almost looks like he's trying to make it work with 07-08 parts??? I have the diagram he sent, but it was useless anyway... it's in some strange format, I'll try and post it up later if that helps.

Subject: Electric Fan

Hi Grant

I have included here a file with a parts blow up of the six speed G35. The newer G's show dual fan operation with separate motors and a single control module. Each of the eletric motors sit in the dual plastic shroud as seen in the diagram. I spoke with our senior Infiniti tech and he was not sure if the motors and module would mount up to your configuration. He had not done this before.

I have sent the diagram along to be sure we are talking about the same thing. Please have a look at it.

21493-EH10A module $153.67

21487-JK60A motor $296.86

Regards

So, if anyone has a suggestion, or knows of cheap electric fans (ebay) send me some info, rec'd sellers, or performance options, I want champaign on a beer budget.

It is a 14" slim light weight performance fan. It is strong enough to cool a v8 mustang. $69.99 for fan, universal mounting kit, and shipped. Cools very nice.

Yes, same diagram, but like I said, I think they had sent me the 07-08 diagram, which "should" work, but I'm now leaning towards a custom setup, as Teflon and Kenrick Suggested, Thanks ALL!!!

I called a few dealers in a few states. None of them had ever done the conversion from the fan clutch to the electric. They also said that in order for it to be wired up normal there would be way too much electrical work to make it worthwhile. They guessed $2500 for them to do the work!

Ooof

The difference is that a mechanical fan runs all the time whereas the electric fans turn on/off and are supposed to adjust their speed based on temperature. I'm sure there is a controller of some sort built into the newer G's that would have to be adapted.

Anyone research this yet or simply installing the fans with them always "balls to the wall"?

OK Fellas, here's the more recent round of discussions with the fine guys at the shop... lol

Hi Grant

I spoke with Peter our Infiniti tech and explained to him what you are looking to do. He had a few concerns. He asked me where you would be getting power from to run the fan. His concerns were if you were taking it off an existing harness it may cause resistance problems with the wire you were drawing power from. Since the electrical system is balanced any irregular draw may create some issues potentially with the onboard computer (worse case scenario) He suggested that you may run the fan off the battery and have the fan connected to a toggle with an inline fuse included.

He had asked if you were looking to boost horsepower by removing the mechanical system in place and if so he believed you may only see a 1 or 2 horsepower difference. He didn't recommend the switch however explained that your thought on it is correct and possible but with concern over electrical draw.

I'm not sure if this helps at all. I am not a tech myself so I was trying to explain your thoughts as best I could to him.

Regards

Sean

Grant,

I've got my buddy at Riverside Infiniti on it. He said he'd get back to me on it. His prices are usually stellar, so maybe he can hook up the G-forums with a group buy or something.

Ive had no problems with a switch. Though it is ghetto and you have to watch who borrows your car. But I actually think the back up electric fan is sufficient if someone would forget to hit the switch under normal driving. I wouldn't want to test this theory of course because the outcome could be horrid if they were racing around town.

Also the fan being hooked to an electric fan helps at the track. I can open the hood and leave the fan running to help cool the car faster. Now I just have to invest in a volt meter to make everything a little safer.
