can someone help me find the sohc piston discussion?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I'm looking for the really big and long discussion about SOHC pistons and putting them into the DE block. I just bought a crapped out DE and am going to rebuild it to high compression. If anyone can find the thread so I can do my homework a little more thoroughly, it'd be awesome! Thanks!

There wasnt a thread on that but on putting the de head on the e motor. Basicly, just when you pull the motor out, put the e pistons in, direct fit not problems. The rods are even the same on the motors but the de pistons are domed and the e pistons are flat top.

Did that conversion last summer if you have any questions just email me, its not very hard waiting on the parts and the machine shop is the biggest problem. That and really expensive gas, I wish I would have waited and went with a turbo set up though.

So mack... you have the e pistons in the dohc block? Is it a very noticble power gain and do you run 93 octane? I am just wodering if building that verse a good turbo setup would be worth it.

Its that simple? Geesh...I thought that there was a little more to it.

Is the build worthwhile? Say...its a noticible and desirable change?

4% per point compression bump...so going form 9.5:1 to 11.1:1 is good for 6% increase in RWHP.

So if you were at 150rwhp, then you'll gain 9rwhp.

Worth it...yes, if you're staying N/A, and you have to open the motor for a rebuild or something else.

...worth it to just open the motor and swap pistons...I don't think so, not for only ~10 more HP.

Man, that kinda sucks...thanks for the info though. If I had a little more money and time to port and polish and get a hold of some cams to make more use of that little bit more displacement then it'd be a worthwile cause for me...anyway, thanks for the info. I guess I'll hold onto that 50 bucks and put it towards some new windshield wipers or somein'. Thanks to all! Ray

yeah like he said, the gain was probably no more then 10hp, if your rebuilding it anyway and dont mind using expensive gas then go for it. Yeah I used to run 93 but they quit selling it so now I just run 3/4 91 and 1/4 airplane fuel that way I can advance the timeing a little and shoot N20 without worring about detonation. But if your just looking for hp per $$ go with a turbo setup

And its not really easy easy, its a pain the the @$$ but if you have a shop a manual and some experience with tearing about engines then its not to bad, but I've been working on cars for a while so dont try it if your not experienced.

Nope, I've got no problems with tearing down motors at all. I really thoguht the gains were better. Ohwells..so much for trying to be different. : )

i think with a little tuning, 9.5 to 11.6 would add a little more power than 10 hp. Would that mean that if i uped it to 13.6:1, then id only get 20 hp?thats about what all of these hasport and other race ka's have for compression (upto 14:1) making 250 whp.it just comes down to supporting mods and tuning.

just doing one mod never got anyone a ton of power (except turbo).

oh and mackdaddy, i noticed you looking for an LSD. ive got a brand new tomei 2-way. email me if interested along with anyone else [email protected]
