sometimes when you are driving and push the gas the rpms go down and it sounds like it dies but the after holding the gas for a second it goes. sometimes it will actually die and when you try to start it it will just crank and won't turn over and starts to smell like gas. can someone please help me with this?

mine was doing that for a while...clean out the TPS and all intake sensors, that worked for me.

If it smells like gas it means that the injector O-rings are gone and the gas is rushing past them into the cylinder. Your engine is flooded, and that is why it is hard for it to start, if it starts at all. O-rings are very cheap. Go to the dealership and get some. Make sure you lube them up before you put them in, otherwise they might rip again. Very easy and cheap fix.

unplug the sensor and see if coolant seeps out, then you know its the sensor. other than that, look at the FSM, find the correct test procedure and test it

A faulty coolant temp sensor will make the car run like crap all over the powerband... this is because the ECU uses the coolant temp to determine the coordinate on the fuel and timing maps. What it's doing is dumping fuel into the cylinders because it is throwing an error and going into the default error map.

Replace the coolant temp sensor and I bet your problem goes away... it's cheap and it's easy to replace. If you get an intermittant overheating problem after the install you need to bleed the coolant system of air.

The coolant temp sensor on the DE's is located right by the thermostat housing (the engine end of the upper radiator hose, where it connects there should be two plugs, the larger should be the coolant temp sensor)

On the E's the coolant temp sensor is located on the lower coolant hose where the two lower sections combine. There is a small sensor in a pipe fitting.

No need to test it if the ECU is throwing that specific code... the coolant temp sensor code is a direct code in which the ECU is recieving an abnormally low or high code, or no code at all. Either way the sensor needs to be replaced.

I didnt know how much the sensolr was, or if it was a wiring fault. ive seen the guy next to me at the shop throw parts at something too many times, and it be a connector or a wiring problem. I know that cryslers are bad about wiring going bad. id rather test it and be sure.

Fortunatly the build quality on the Nissan electrical systems are superior to about 90% of what the domestic companies can come up with and these problems often don't arise withen the wiring.

Wiring also would usually cause an intermittant problem in this case, not one consistant with everyday operation. That is unless there was a total failure of the wiring, which would be easily visable unless it was as far back as the ECU pin-out, but I've never seen that problem on a properly grounded and powered engine harness (ie. someone didn't ghetto wire their engine).

make sure there is no corrosion in that connector for that sensor.
