I blew my head gasket on my ka24de while driving from Va, to Ohio. I was 6.5 hours into the drive. I think it was cause by the crack in my coolant recovery tank..Was letting the vapor escape, therefore loosing my coolant slowly. My temp gauge just shot up all of a suddon and i drove it maxed out for about 10 miles, because there was absolutely no should where i was. The head was sent off to a machine shop to be inspected for cracks, and they said that the head was warped beyond repair. They then tried to tell me that the "NOS" i used warped the head because it burns so hot...BS.....I haven't used my nitrous for at least a month before this happened. And i was only running a 55 shot at that. I just wanted to make sure that what im thinking is right or along the lines of it.

It is not likely that the NOS you were using did it. It is very likely that due to a total lack of coolant in the upper cyl head it was not being cooled and warped for that reason.

nitrous doesn't cause engines to overheat, the only issue with nitrous is the pressures it causes in the combustion chamber. no coolant for 10 minutes will definately cause serious damage though

thanks guys...i just wanted to make sure. I knew that the warping came from the extreme heat the head was under due to the lack of coolant

That sucks I feel for you. I blew my head gasket a couple weeks ago, My radiator got a small crack and blew all the water out while I was going down the highway too. But as soon as it got hot I pulled over, luckily the head was fine and all it did was blow the gasket, you should have towed it could have saved the head, but **** my tow cost me $700 since I was no where close to home so I might as well have toasted my head

You don't drive on an overheating engine.. period, and now you know why. Stert looking for a new head.

Mark the machine shops view on nitrous is complete bs.

Lack of coolant to the head is what blew the gasket and warped it...Do you still have your old dohc head laying around? If so, buy a headgasket and its install day.
