I have a 90 nissan 240sx with 114,000 miles. I also have a motorcycle that i want to take racing. Can i pull a trailer with the motorcycle on it with my car?

Yes you can if you have a hitch on the car. Think about this, a Nissan hardbody truck has a KA24E in it. Your 240Sx also has a KA24E in it. Just be easy as for speed and brakeing. It might take a little wile longer to stop it with the loaded trailer.

gotta love those lower gears. the 240 pulls stuff pretty well. i mean, i've hauled my fat ***, my friend nicks even fatter ***, and my sister in my car and had no problems.

hehehehehe. Yeah I have one. Worked out just fine. Now the trick for me is to sell it since I have no use for it anymore. Had to throw it on for work. You should have seen it! I was pulling an oooold trailer that was in pretty rough shape behind the 240.

I wish I took some pics. Too damn funny! And yes, it worked fine. Added about another 800-1000lbs towing the damn thing but the KA pulled like a champ.

There is a white DOHC hatch around town here that pulls a jet ski trailer down to the river every weekend. I see it everytime im out waterskiing in our boat.

Keep in mind the chassis was not really designed with towing in mind like perhaps with a truck. There is some limited capacity. Perhaps check the owner's manual. Keep in mind towing is not just about what the motor can pull. I've towed cars and trailers with a non-full sized SUV. That was scary. With the load being more than half the weight of the SUV, the load had a tendency to want to dictate where the SUV went. And it tends to put a heavy load on the rear tires and pull off some of the load from the fronts. Steering became less responsive as well.

Here's a few articles that might give you some insight into what can be done to make a vehicle safer to handle towing duties.

I do know one person who trekked his 240 and a small trailier with his race tires on it from North Carolina to California for the 2002 240sx meet. It was a pretty nice hitch set-up. The receiver was hidden behind the rear license plate. The trailer was quite small and light so weight was not really much of an issue here.

Well all he wants to pull is a small trailer with a motorcycle on it. I know about pulling trailers with small cars. Ever driven a 83 Sentra with a 2 axle trailer with a Nissan 720 truck on it. Takes forever to get there and longer to stop.

ya, the engine may be able to handle it but the car may not. id keep it under 1000 pounds. the motor cycle should be fine.

my friend and i tried to do a 180 from reverse to forward and when the cut the wheel, we backed right into a rock and bent that litle hitch attachment up. now he has a big dent in the spare tire well of his 92 integra. the back was off the ground, lol thank god it is fwd

Yeah ... I like the idea of a small trailor to put spare wheels and tires on :)

I had a 93 Honda Prelude with about 4 ft/lbs of torque at 90,000,000 RPM and I had no issue at all pulling a trailer with 2 sportbikes on it.. about 1000lbs total. You could certainly feel it back there but it would pull it just fine. The 240 should have no problems. Go for it man!

It definitely changed the handling characteristics of the car. Brake early, a pain to change lanes sometimes, not as much acceleration, worse fuel milage, meh.

I dont think the S14 hitch would work for the S13, but im fairly sure they exist for the S13. I got mine from U-Haul and it was a very extensive piece. Its sorta like a spiderweb around the differential. It also runs a premium one week before race wars.

U-Haul, good to know! I'll have to check with them this summer :) Thanks for the tip ;) With any luck I'll be towing around a small sailboat.

yeah, U-Haul has em both. the only thing i would think about is the lights for the trailer. i dont know if you would have to have a brake light setup on it or not, but wiring might be a pain if you do cause i dont think it has a harness.

buy a harness from uhaul and get them to install it. I tried the install on my s14 and it was a nightmare! Im not sure how close I was, but it was a huge PITA. I have done some minor wiring jobs in my time, but this wasnt easy.

meh, Ive towed my 240 with my civic :D

it was with a tow strap though, not a trailer. but I think a bike on a bike trailer will be just fine, as long as it isnt like an enclosed trailer. or maybe that would be fine too, but just dont go overboard.

The motor is not as much the issue as is the chassis. Not to say the motor can handle a ton of weight, but I'd seriously make sure the car's load rating is not surpassed. The 240sx wasn't exactly designed with towing in mind. And make sure the tire's load rating is up to the task as well.

true to that... properly mounting the towing bracket is critical...i hate to see your rear end get ripped off ;)
