Alright can it really be that bad the six speed transmission from the s15 sr20det I'm really looking into geting one but people say not to because he transmission is garbage. What makes it garbage no one can give me a reason they just say it sucks, hope some one here can give me a couple of reasons thanks

I wouldn't say it sucks.

The main problem arises from kids trying to do high rpm clutch dumps on the gearbox for burn outs and drag racing.

The 6 speed has one extra gear that fits inside the same sized gearbox, so the other gears had to be cut slightly thinner to make the squeeze possible. Because of that, the gears themselves don't hold up to abuse like a 6000 rpm clutch dump.

Now to go out there and say the gearbox is garbage is an unfair attack on the gearbox. The 6 speed is nice and if you're wanting a fun daily driver and light road racer, the 6 speed will get the job done very well.

don't forget you need a diff to offset the short gearing of the 6 speed and to have a speedometer

For auto-x you should be fine.

But yeah, you will need the S15 rear diff to accompany the trans. Added bonus as it's a helical LSD

Do some research and you'll find that the S15 trans has a divorced speed sensor. It's located on the diff and has a different gear ratio for it's signal output. Because of that you need a converter box to change the signal pulse to one that the stock cluster can read.

If you want to dump $4k on a new transmission , the NISMO 6-speed for the SR has the speed sensor on the transmission

I beleave the s15 flywheel is about 26lbs and the s13/14 flywheel is about 20lbs. That should add some more stress
