Can Intake Manifold Collector be removed?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I definitely have an intake manifold collector gasket leak and in the process of dropping the collector, but it seems to want to stay put....I've removed the brace bolts, the EGR tube, throttle body (not sure if that was necessary!) and of course, the 3 bolts and 2 nuts holding it to the manifold, but it's only dropping about a 1/4".

It still looks like the oil filter may be in the way, but seems to be holding on elsewhere????

Before I waste my whole Sunday on this, can the collector be removed while engine still in car w/ head and intake manifold still attached?

Any tips/tricks appreciated

Thanks!

Not in my experience. Thats why when you buy an intake manifold gasket set they send you one for the lower half.

I think you can just take off the upper intake manifold. Then you will be able to swap in your gaskets.

I was thinking about removing the upper intake manifold by my self (dealer quoted me a 2 hours job) but didnt really want to mess with the vaccum lines and such...

I have a 96 KA24DE... does this look difficult to you?

Hmmmm...getting to the bottom bolts looks pretty damn tricky w/o taking off the head as well. I believe the "Haynes" manual (for what it's worth!) says that it's impossible to do on the KA24DE in the Altima, but not sure if it's "impossible" to do on the 240SX??? I'm surprised that you received a 2-hour quote for this...seems it would take quite a bit longer.

BTW, I was able to get the lower manifold (collector/plenum) to drop enough to change the gasket although I'm still in SHOCK that the old gasket came off in 1 piece!!!

Yup and not the first time Ive been quoted 2 hours because last time I went to a local shop to get my IACV replaced and they quoted me 2 hours to remove the runners to get access to it.

Just wondering... what kind of vac hoses are plugged to the runners?
