thats a litttle big for a ka, get ready for a lot of lag. but any free turbo is a good turbo.

I did notice that it was a bit big bodied. I'd still like to try it. What would ya'll recomend for a manifold?

By the way, this came out of GMC truck, 6.5 liter diesel I believe.

I dont think it will be too laggy at all. Its about the size of most T3/T4's used on the KA. Ive never seen that turbine outlet bolt pattern before.

I was thinking the same thing. The flange for that puppy mught be a little hard to find, but I bet it would yield pretty good results. I wouldn't pust too hard though, IIRC the 54 trim is pretty inefficient for the KA and when over like 10 PSI it at the surge limit. But I could be thinking of a different turbo. Im 85% sure it was the 54 trim though. It will be a bit laggy but not too bad. The .70 is what will cause it. Maybe a couple hundred rpm's more than a standard T3/TO4E.

I would use it. Free is good. Plus it looks nice.

I disagree, while it may not be the most efficient design, it will work alot better than ambient pressure. It looks to be a straight T4 or even a T3/T4 hybrid using a propeiatary (sp?) flange, but I think a five bolt will work. I think you would get nice usability out of it, but if you change your mind, I might be willing to buy the compressor section.

Why does everyone think it'll be so laggy? It has a .60 A/R turbine housing, whereas the most common T3/T04E units have a . 63 housing. It'll spool up just under 4k rpm.

.70 A/R housing is good...lots of flow, however, as mentioned above, that .54 trim compressor wheel runs into the surge limit above around 8-10psi. You might consider sending it out for a compressor wheel change to a .50 trim.

For this turbo to work, what manifold type would be recomended?

How much do ya wanna spend, haha? IAP and JGS both make pretty good manifolds, plus theres always the RevHard. GroundZero makes really nice mani, but you gotta pay for it.

Here's a good list of manifolds available for the KA...http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6263

Since this turbo is so "big bodied", I'm looking for a manifold that will give me decent clearences overall.

hey that is the same specs as the turbo I am running only I got a 7 bolt exhaust flange! It is not really that laggy and is fun! My turbo is a garrett and also water cooled 2 but I bet they are pretty much the same. I think you will be good. I have the ssac mani. but clocked my motor with hockey pucks. They provide very nice sturdy motor mounts, like 0 engine movement and I have plenty of room for the turbo even with the automatic's big brake booster!
