I have a 1997 base 240 with the 4 lug hubs. I'd like to do a 5 lug swap and theres an abandoned 240 in an old lot next door to where my buddy was looking for a place to setup shop. He says the 300zx (not turbo Z32) has been sitting there for years, and it has the wheels and hubs and everything still on it. He used to know the owner of the lot and says he moved away out of state. So I could take the hubs and brake assembly from the car if it will fit. Anyone know if the hubs will fit? I'm pretty sure they will, I could use the brakes but would eventually put some TT parts on since the TT calipers are aluminum and lighter. But for now the base ones would work for me. Thanks for any help.

The rear hubs will work fine. The fronts will NOT work. Also, all 90-92 Z32 calipers are aluminum, NA and TT. The earlier 90 NA models are 26mm vs. 30mm, but are still aluminum. 93-96 calipers are iron, and of course all 30mm.

thanks for all the info. How come the front ones wont work? If it's something I can make work through modification, then I'll do it. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated and thanks for the already given info again.

Nope. Tension rod is shorter, crossmember is located further back, strut design is different, and Z32s use an upper A-arm.

No. You must use an S14 spindle. The hubs are designed differently.

Why would you say that? The S14 SE hub is also 5lug, so unless you use a base model 4lug hub it's fine. Or, if you do the brakes but just redrill the Z32 rotors for a 4lug fitment, but either way that's retarded.

YES. Even the wider TT 8.5" wheels will fit in the front. Clearance will not be an issue unless you run coilovers. There are two such cars here local, both running full Z32 brakes and TT wheels.

How do you figure that? So when I bolted mine right up I had to modify them? Don't think so. They are a direct swap just the fronts, the only thing different is the e-brake cable is shorter. Can you clarify this misinformation?

I was going swap 300ZX rear to S13 too, but rear shock mount is different, parking brake different, and Z rear brake line attaches to the caliper with a female double flare fitting, while the 240SX uses a banjo fitting....

240SX uses a post style lower shock mount, while 300ZX uses a fork style lower mount

is there a certain year and model of the 300zx that this problem refers to? because this is the first time I hear anyone say it's a problem to do this swap. Most say it's simple bolt on, please be really specific because I am thinking about doing the brake set-up swap front and rear (if possible). also I would like the wheels also, please help me out. I have a 92 HB. Please explain in details, I am kinda slow.

You're talking about swapping the whole upright. You don't need to do that for just the brakes. The hub unbolts from the upright and mounts to the S13/S14 upright. Brake lines bolt right up too with an extra crush washer, just like the fronts do. Again, my S14 and 2 local S13s have Z rear brakes. They bolt right up. The SCC article uses Z32 uprights for weight savings only. There is NO other need to use them.

The front, use the five lug hub assemblies from the S14 and bolt it in place of the S13 front hubs, not just the hub but also the spindle, they do not mix and match. The rear, just pull the bearing assembly from the S13 rear hub carriers and swap in the the Z bearing. This will allow you to convert to the drum style parking brake of the Z and keep the proper shock mount of the S13.Get the master cylinder from the Z as well, your S13 one may not be big enough to squeeze the bigger Z binders.

I am bumping this b/c I have a couple q's and am confused on some things.

(FYI, I'm doing s13 4-lug to 5 lug w/ z32 brakes)

1. In SCC, they used a ball joint from an S14 b/c they said it was unsafe to use the s13 ball joint. They refer to a Moog part and part number (being the s14 ball joint)...now the problem...who the heck is Moog and where can you buy that part? I searched the net using the p/n and brand, but get nothing but that scc article!

2. What, exactly, is needed to do the rear brakes? I think I'll need:a. Z32 calipersb. Z32 rear brake assembly (rotors incl?)c. I'm going to use SS lines from H.T.d. Z32 hub and bearing (will s14 5 lug hub and bearing work instead?)e. Z32 p-brake cable

Thanks in advance for the help.

Sorry I'm such a n00b!:pface

ive been studyin up on the 5lug-swap. i just want 2 make sumthing clear, is it tru that u have 2 order different shocks, since the rear 300zx rear hub has different shock mount?

the front swap seems relativly straight forward, but the rear confuses me

btw - i should hav the money for the swap in a 2months

No that is not true. You only have to use Z32 struts if you use the Z32 upright. Some people prefer the Z32 upright b/c it is aluminum and reduces unsprung weight by 7lbs each side...but it's not required.

BUMP for my questions.:)

so rear use of z32 strut means z32 spring, correct?so no drilling for mounting is required?and should i get a new z32 upright new from dealership, or scrouge the bone yards?

Has anyone read ANYTHING posted in here? EVERY question has been answered. Since there's STILL confusion, here it is again:

For S14 5lug- both front AND rear calipers and rotors are a direct bolt on, NOTHING is required. To keep the e-brake, you will need the Z32 hub with the e-brake assembly, but NOT the upright. The upright will not bolt on to an S14, the arms are different. The hub also is a direct bolt on.

S14 4lug-same thing as above, but with the use of S14 5lug front hubs, and Z32 rear hubs as listed above, or just redrill the rotors for 4lug. No other parts are needed.

S13 front- S14 5lug hub and spindle MUST be used, with an S14 balljoint pressed into the S13 LCA. Caliper and rotor bolt up.

S13 rear- Z32 rear hub and e-brake assembly, same as the S14 rear. The upright CAN be used for weight savings, but you must modify the lower shock mount. Z32 rear shocks will NOT work on an S13, they are different sizes. For the easy install the upright is not reccomended.

Please refer to this, it answers all questions. Z32 brakes and wheels go right on to ANY S13 or S14.
