Can I use 225/55-18 rather than stock 245/45-18 in order to end tramlining and get a better on center feel. One would think a narrower tire would accomplish this. The 225/55-18 is about 1" taller or 1/2" from hub to ground, radius. This size is available in a Michelin Primacy MXV4. I bought a 2009 M35X and have had all I can take with the constant steering inputs needed to keep the car in a straight line at highway speeds. I have had alignment and replaced the RS-A with Michelin Primacy, but in the same 245/45-18 size.

Not really - unless you replace the rims as well. The rims will be too wide for 225 I believe.

Also, are you sure narrower tire will fix the problem? It is a lot hassle at least.

Wheel width range for a 225/45-18 tire is 6 to 8 inches. Hitting 7" would be ideal, of course, but anything in that range ought to do.

Going outside that range is the "stretch" look - particularly if the value is way beyond that range. Unsafe ... but some people think it is cool.

An 8.5" wheel width will not be dangerous, but certainly not give you the best results for tire wear - you may have to compensate with pressure adjustments to get it right.

Finally, as mentioned above too, it is not clear that going narrow will help the tramlining - I don't think anyone really knows that outcome. The only success stories here, have been replaced tire brands and models.
