This is my original plan, but I keep hearing... turbo it! I choose N/A because it is cheaper than turbo or is it?

AEM intake........................................... $170PDM N/A cams..................................... $650Hotshot header 2.5 in. outlet................ $3212.5 in. VRS cat-back............................. $320Crank Pulley......................................... $180Emanage + Fuel/Ignition harness.......... $350Fidanza flywheel.................................. $275ACT clutch and disc kit..........................$360

TOTAL............................................. ......$2626

Expected power: 160 to 170 RWHP and 160 to 170 TQCompression on all 4 cylinders @ 178 psi

So, Can I turbo for this much?

Why spend so much for a n/a setup. I spent way less for my custom turbo kit and I have a lot more power then 160-170 hp.

ivanqz do you read? Theres a bizzilion threads on "just turboed my ka" or "im boostin now" blah blah blah...my point is you need to click on these links to the threads and read the threads, there are tons of guys on this forum that are running t25/28s, ssac bottom mount t2 mani, 370cc injs, SR20 smic, ssac dump pipe, ssac down pipe, safc 1 or 2, SR20 smic piping, and misc bovs. This setup will usually net around 210 with an exhaust running the stock 7psi on the t25/28 turbo, and guess what the good think about it is that you can get alllllllllllll that stuff used for just under 1000. My total right now with spark plugs and oil and all the vac lines and my gauges is 927.68 (sorry i like to keep tabs) and since i dont have a wideband im going to get it tuned (which is actually today, ill have charts for you guys) for 150. So there ya go, and youll have plenty of money to play around with incase your run into trouble. But you might wanna check out the T3 turbos from the z31, theres also a bunch of people using those and are making around 230-240 usually. So i hope i helped, sorry for the mean beginning....its early here lol

I know u can turbo ur cor for less that 2200 dollars and make 250rwhp safely as long as u do the research and the work yourself. If I had done the research better, i wouldn't of spent stupid money and would have only spent 2300 dollars for my current setup pushind 270rwhp with an automatic. but reasearch evry aspect of it before buying the first piece of equipment, thta's my advice

SOHC or DOHC?

I am, to the annoyance of many, the budget man.

You can turbo over 200HP for about $1500 - here is how.

Stock clutch in good condition is good to about 200HP give or take. ACT clutch ~ $400. Not sure HP rating on their $400 units.

Select manifold & modest turbo - be sure to get one with an internal waste gate - huge $300+ savings here.

Right here you save $700 if your stock clutch hangs in there.

Manifold & modest re-manufactured turbo = $600Emanage or bikirom = $ 250Injectors, gauge & tuning = $400 / depends.IC, BOV & Pipe = $300

This stuff all depends, but even if it comes up higher you're still money ahead.

Thanks for al the replies guys. Turbo KA it is. I think my problem was that I didn't know that I could use so many parts from a used SR turbo. Like turbo pipe, down pipe, IC pipes, and stock side mounted IC. I guess the only thing I can't use is the SR turbo manifold. Right?

the sr parts will bolt up only if you get the ssautochrome manifold.. which happens to be one of the least expensive available ones. the manifold places the the turbo in the same place in the engine bay as the stock sr does.. that's why it lets everything fit with little to no modifying.

the reason i asked if he was sohc is because i have a t3 manifold for a ka24e i would sell him for cheap. if he does decide to go ka-t. im just trying to help a brother (and myself out). also the dohc is easier to find a cheaper manifold.

Here's a recent thread to get you started...zerothread?id=154598

You'll definitely make more power per dollar by turboing.
