I'm not a sycho, but I popped my valve cover to try and uncover the cause of my clacking timing chain. The upper guides are already removed (done before I owned the car) and the upper tensioner seems to be working. I rotated the engine via the nut on the p/s pump, but I think I need to try to turn the car over to see if I can pinpoint the noise. The car will not be run (no spark plug wires) just kicked over to look/listen.

BTW: if anyone wants to throw in their $.02 on the reason for the noise: Timing chain is in perfect shape and all guides (well, the ones that I can see) look to be in good shape.

Nevermind. I grew some balls and tried it. No problems, or clicking. I am just gonna take the car to a shop and see what they say.

Yeah, there has got to be oil all over the place, tried with just the oil cap off can't imagine it with the whole valve cover off.

Well, w/o spark plugs, the car won't run...just turn over with the starter. No oil spray at all.

dude...why are you doing all these stupid things to your car. Don't start your car without spark plugs, u can deg screw **** up. I think you should just give up and find somebody who can maybe help. So far everything you have done is pointless and some of it is harmfull to your car.

Sure. Whatever. Running w/o spark plugs for 15 seconds in not going to screw anything up.

so how exactly did you run your car w/o spark plugs? Or are you talking about just cranking the motor?

Geez, I cranked it. No damage was done, nothing bad happened. I did it for NO more than 15 seconds TOTAL. Approx. 3 times @ 5 seconds each. I really don't care about this engine. I am buying a complete CA setup next week-ish, and having it installed before the end of May, so no biggie...

I'm gonna take a stab at this and say rico05 is being sarcastic again. At least I hope.

Goodness, what a pointless thread this turned into.

There is no harm with just cranking the engine without the valve cover, minus oil getting in bystanders' eyes. If you run it without it for too long, well, no oil pressure + running engine = engine death.

And cranking without spark plugs won't hurt an engine.

thank you touchdown u set everything straight. runnign a car with no spark is just like if ur distributor went bad or coil wnet bad or wut so ever the car wont turn on. and if the sparkplugs are removed while u crank it ur going to just have a lil gas spray out the hole with compression. thats it. there is no harm at all done to it.

how do u do a compression test u take the spark plug out and install the gauge. thats it theres nut bad with it.
