I bought a timing belt kit from Joe and for anyone who has purchased one, knows of all the stuff that it comes with, and i was wondering if i should trust my local Nissan dealership to faithfully install all the parts? has anyone here had a good/bad experience with this? They said they would charge me $665.00 + tax for the labor.

Yeap 665 is fairly reasonable given they replace everything , belts, the pump the thermostat.

Thanks for the feedback. I have another question for you guys. The alternator belt on my car is in very bad shape and the car squeals like a scalded pig. I have to use my battery pack to crank it up everytime, but once it's runing, the car is fine, but as soon as i turn the engine off, out comes the battery pack again. Could this be b/c the belt is so messed up? or is this a alternator and battery problem?

The evidence you have can not tell for certain if your alternator is weak.Odds are in your favor that the poor belt is responsible for the symptoms, and that it's not a bad alternator.

Belt squeak indicates a problem. So get that fixed, and have the battery and alternator fully tested.

If the battery is less than par, I'd replace it.A weak battery can accelerate the aging of both your alternator and your starter. A battery is very cheap by comparison.

Unless the belt is slick (Glazed) on the inside from slipping it might just need tightening.I was surprised how tight the belts need to be on the J when I replaced all of mine awhile back.

One way to be a little more sure if they changed parts is to ask for ALL of the old parts when the job is complete. Being a nissan dealer they *might* have some old stuff sitting around still but I can't see them going to that kind of trouble.

you made a good point about them having old parts hanging around, so thats got me thinking. Should i trust this job to a repair shop that is not a Nissan/Infiniti dealership?
