ive read plenty on the entire pumpkin, but what about just the internal gears? would they fit and match the splines on my open diff? If im swapping the internals do i need anything else like the cover half shafts drive axles or is it a direct swap?

ok i have looked into this as well with a j30 vlsd unit into my stock 240sx r200 open diff, let me tell you now there isnt much information on this one out there. most ppl do the easier swap of the whole pumpkin but there is a diffrence in the gearing that is gonna throw your spedo off. from what i understand you need to basically disassemble the entire thing and swap the vlsd unit in where the open gears used to be, keeping the ring and pinion gears togeather. I BELIEVE that you need to keep the stub axels and shims togeather with there original center sections altho there is some information out there that will tell you that you can overshim the vlsd unit causing it to lock up more often and hold harder. this tho would seem to wear the vlsd unit causing failure.

you should be able to as long as its a r200 pumpkin. i swapped the q45 internals on my open diff casing. also used the stock 240 r&p gear 4.08 had to get it machined and use the stock shimms.

is there any reason for wanting to swap the internals instead of the whole pumpkin? is the diff lighter? it seems alot easier to just swap the whole thing.

i got one of the output shaft machined. the shims look like big round metal spacers. i'll take some pics been to busy

for my case i wanted to use the stock 240 r&p gear on the q45 vlsd so it was easier to swap the internals. plus mine had the abs and had to swap the covers anyways. it is easier to swap the whole thing
