Can I swap an Auto transmission from a J30 or 240SX into a Z32??

On my 1990 300ZX N/A the Automatic transmission does not shift above 2nd gear....It has 1st gear and sometimes 2nd gear (and Reverse + Neutral).....I can redline the car in 1st gear but it does not shift upwards. Engine is running strong with 165K miles

So I'm considering swapping another Automatic transmission in from a J30 or possibly a 240SX ....I'm not sure if this would be a direct (drop-in) swap or modifications are needed to accommodate the auto transmission.

Has anyone here has information on such a swap?? which cars can I use the transmission from?? Which years ?? Any issues to watch out for during the swap??

I believe the J30 willwork, the ka uses a different bellhousing and I'd assume a different trans

I'd recomend swapping for a manual trans or building your trans, then you know what you've got, swap in a junkyard trans and it might work it might not, it might work now and in a week or a month it could give up the ghost

Well rebuilding the transmission is out of the questions because of the expense involved and I would need to have someone else do the work....

Replacing the transmission with a manual is way too much work at this point and it's also not worth it (to me)....I'm planing to get the car fixed and then sell it...I already have another 300ZX with a manual transmission so the Automatic has to go....

Does anyone know what year J30 the non-turbp Auto Transmissions are the same?? Do they line up correctly at the starter and bolt right up at the bellhousing?? I just need to know before I purchase a used one....Thanks for your time

all J30 transmissins will bolt up, not sure on the driveshaft an wiring but it definetly bolts to the engine

Why don't you just buy a 300zx auto transmission. I am sure you can find them with no problem.

i have a 30,000 mile engine and transmission out of a tt 300zx 1993 if you want to work something out pm me.i used the engine not the transmission.

The TT Auto transmission will NOT bolt up to a non-TT engine directly and it has a longer shaft so it won't work for my car....Thanks for the offer anyway.

yes it will, starter, flexplate, driveshaft might all be different but it will bolt to the engine just fine
