I'm lookin into replacing the old azz tint that's on my car. I've finally found someone that'll do good work for a price that dont seem like i'm being Reamed. I took car in for him to assess it and he told me because the tint is so old (and now purple) it's probably really 'baked on' and it's possible that i'll loose the rear defogger in the process of removing the old film

Anyone has a solution to this or is this my car's fate? Can i get new defogger strips to replace the old ones if they get destroyed? Please advise Ya'll.

I'd feel funny about a place using a razor anywhere near my defogger strips. The fact that he even mentioned it so blatantly says alot. Well I know that sometimes those lines can be repaired but I dont know to what extent he plans on destroying them.

The process he told me he uses involves, spraying the old tint w/ a solution that breaks it down(maybe ammonia). Then he places a 2nd type of film covering the entire window. --the solution will be sandwiched between.

It sits for atleast an Hr to break down the old tint and then he removes it. He says most of the old tint comes right off...but if it requires too much additional scraping, the defogger could get damaged. I saw 3 vehicles the guy did personally, and it's perfect looking work. But my situation is different from the other's because all 3 i saw were new SUV's.

I would assume that youd need new rear glass if you went that route, and it realyl did destroy.
