Can I Run A 92 240sx With No Upper Timing Chain Guide?

I have a 240sx with a bad rattle at the front of the engine, I was wondering if I have to replace the timing chain to fix this? Could I just remove the guide? Does it (the guide) really need to be there??Could I just replace the tensoners?And what is the maximum or minimums that each of these procedures would cost

yes u can drive without many have including myself. removing it is free. replaceing the upper tensioner ( good idea ) costs like 90 for the part from the dealer. and if u have done all that work to ur nova then this will be a breeze
