My battery is almost dead. It does not have enough charge to respond to the starter. Just enough to keep rest of the electronics running.
Car is parked where I can't give a jumpstart myself.

My question is, can I bring a new battery from Walmart (lets say) and install it myself? I have all the tools and stuff but I am concerned that if I remove the battery myself then it might leave other electronics dead. Like lock or stereo or fuel pump. Do I have to take it to the dealer?

Appreciate your help!

They'd need one more tool than an adult; a stepstool.

Yes you can replace it yourself, just take the normal precautions when removing the battery, nothing special. Walmart is where I purchased my battery from and I installed it myself. if you can get it started again and get it to Advance Auto Parts, CarQuest, Autozone, ect they'll install the battery for free if you buy it there. Hope this helps, good luck!

Also, if you need anymore help in the future you should post in the Maxima forums just below these, this is the General Chat section. :dblthumb:

Thanks tigersharkdude and flohtingPoint. I had no doubts about 5 yr olds changing batteries :) specially when my 4 yr old giving me instructions here.
I wasn't sure about the underlying stuff connected to the battery getting screwed.

@A33: Thanks for your comment. Taking it to a local shop (there are so many of them around) would have been great but I can't get it to start or jump start.

Well, if it won't jump start, it might not be the battery. It could be the starter.

@All: Its already done. Went to AutoZone. Got the battery and installed in roughly about 30 min. I had to buy an adjustable ranch. Starts like a charm.

I meant that car is parked in such a way that I could not bring in my SUV close enough to attach the cables for jump start.

Thanks All again.

you know you could have put it in neutral and rolled/pushed it far enough to get your suv close enough

Hey genius, SUV's are really heavy.

Also, maybe, just maybe... it was parked on a hill. If you're gonna troll, do it intelligently. ;)

Hey genius, he was talking about rolling the Maxima, not the SUV. Quit being a douche.

I meant the Maxima. lol, It's still a freaking heavy car.

I'm a big dude and I would have a hard time pushing 3200+ lbs around... Push starting my previous 3000lb S12 was almost impossible.

I can push my maxima, you just need strong legs. Quit e-thugging

EDIT: if the car was on a hill why would he have to push it up? He could have rolled it backwards just far enough to get his suv close enough to jump start it

yeah it almost always takes a second person and/or a hill to push start a car, but if it was on relatively smooth ground (garage floor or whatever), he could probably push it far enough to where he could get some jump leads in there.

Well thanks for the suggestions. I meant it when I said I am not in a spot where I can jump start it. It worked out well in the end.

Parallel parked, up hill, on the side of a busy road.

Guy says he can't move it, you say "you know you can move it, right?" This isn't e-thuggin, this was taking the fella at his word. Sorry you didn't like that.

Anyway, how did you get the battery to die anyway? Are you sure you don't have an alternator issue that made the battery die?

My school was really poor and so the school bus wasn't great. They couldn't afford gas. Or wheels. We used to push it back and forth to school, 5 days a week.

Uphill.

Both ways.

In 6 feet of snow.

With no shoes.

If you buy a battery from Wal-Mart they will install it for you free of charge.
