Just got a great deal on a Nissan Versa SL Hatchback, but I don't like the look of the real spoiler, or the colored side sills / front and rear fascia... I know most people like these features, but I prefer no rear spoiler, and the simple black sills on the S model. Any idea how I could achieve the "S" look on the 2010 SL? Specifically:

1. Can I simply remove the rear spoiler, or will that create problems?
2. Can I swap out the side sills and front/rear fascia parts for the S-trim versions?

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions...

New to Versa,

Natasha

You can certainly remove the spoiler but you would have to plug up the holes if it was screwed in.

What do you mean "side sills and front/rear fascia parts"? Are you talking about the sideskirt and front/rear lips?

The side skirts will come off and you can replace them with S model pieces. The dark gray strips on each bumper are part of the bumper. You'll have to paint them to match or completely change the bumper.

You are the first person who does not want the matching side skirts!

Do you have the sport bumpers too? Maybe you could swap them with someone who has an S model. I'm sure there are people here who'd be willing to change ;)

What colour Versa did you buy?

- Yes that's what I mean. I was using the Nissan terminology...

Yeah I'm a wierdo for not liking the matching side skirts / rocker panels / side sills - OR the "unique from and rear fasica" (which I guess means bumper / lips). To me, these parts make the car appear (a) too close to the ground; (b) too too big and shiny - I which I guess is why everyone else likes them! Me, I like the simpler black matte rubbery look...

I'd totally be willing to swap my sports parts for the simpler S parts - but here is one question I have about that: The SL comes with fog lights and the S does not, so would swapping in the S bumper create a problem?

No screws in the spoiler. It will come off with holes in the metal.

Thanks Paul. Which would be a better way for me to match the lower lips - paint them black, or use wide strips of black auto pinstriping tape?

Yes that's why I like my sport bumpers. Here in Canada a regular SL model does not give you the sport bumpers, you have to upgrade to the sport package (which I did back in 2008) so it's still rare to see Versa's here with the sport bumpers. Very few people upgrade to everything. I also like them because it makes the car appear a bit lower, without having to lower the car and risk losing the soft ride quality that the Versa has right now.

You could swap with someone and leave the fogs. Many people who have S bumpers (non sport bumpers) have added a fog light kit.

Where are you located? Someone is bound to scoop this up. Post it up in the for sale thread that you would like to trade and say what colour car you have.

Thanks for the tip on where to post for a trade. I know my parts are more expensive, so ideally whoever gets them would be willing to put his "S" parts on my car (after removing mine) as part of the trade! I'll advertise it later this week...

That's crazy. The Versa HB doesn't look right without the spoiler.

Well to me it looks silly! It's not serving any purpose in terms of aerodynamics, and it sticks out like a fin. I prefer the rounded top look, instead of the racing-car-imitation look...

Anyone know if it would be easy or hard to fill the holes, if I remove it?

Can weld some metal in the holes, bondo and then paint.

But this is about the weirdest/dumb thing I've seen lately. Its a brand new car, and this is setting up to hurt the value of it greatly. Should have gotten one without the spoiler, apparently should have gotten an S with foglights to suit your needs.

One thing the spoiler is good for (besides better looks) it carries air over and down on the back window keeping it a little cleaner of dirt while driving when compared to non-spoiler hatches.

Doesn't the instructions from the factory tell you to drill holes? I know I've seen that before.

Edit: Bulldog's OEM install included drilling:

Does the factory not drill?

I just saw Bulldog's thread too.

Why would the OEM ones be stuck on? Is that secure enough?
Bulldog's was a Nissan spoiler and he had to drill the holes too.

I just went here and read the installation instructions for the rear spoiler (http://www.courtesyparts.com/images/ins ... R-C11X.pdf) and it seems to involve drilling holes (4) AND adhesive tape...

I think the front sport bumpers fit the sedan, but the rear sport bumpers from the hatch do not fit the sedan. At least that is what I have heard.

All the bumpers have the grille on the bottom. The "Sports" bumpers have no black plastic underneath it, and have different lips.

Following up on my original post:
I just successfully removed the spoiler (gray metallic) - so it's up for sale on the "trade and sell" thread, asking 125 (or best offer).

Details? We are also thinking of removing the spoiler. It's not compatible with our bike rack.

Would love to hear how this went.

It was easy - only thing is it leaves two small holes. You can easily and cheaply plug them with small plastic plugs of the same color (I got them free from a mechanic shop).

I understand how you feel. My old car (Honda Accord) was a higher end model and I wanted something different so I got a basemodel Versa. Its silver with black mirrors, door handles, sideskirts, lips, and trunk trim. I love it.

You can actually have a bodyshop paint your sideskirts and mirrors/door handles black(if thats what you want), not sure about the lips though because I dont think the sports bumpers have lips like the regular bumpers. Do you have any pics of the process of removing the spoiler.
