Your priorities are your wife and child. It appears you have at least 4 cars (though it sounds like 5 as you also mention a truck). I would hope they are running. Reasonably, you should have a car for you and a car for your wife but many couples make do sharing a car when times are tough.
That said, if money is tight, then any cars not running should take a back seat to your family's financial needs. It doesn't sound like you are neglecting these needs, but the reality here is that you have to cope with reality. And if that means selling the car, then do so. And if you have more than one project (more than one car not running), your wife needs to smack you in the back of the head. If its just the one car and you can afford to keep it even if you can't work on it fine, but do consider the possibility that money tied up in the car's current value has an opportunity cost (i.e. can the money be better spent elsewhere?).
