HI All,

I Usually work the ca18det engine alot, but today, I did my first SR red top on my buddies 240sx, started 9:00am, finished it at 7:00pm

I would like to know from the members that have their sr RED top up and running, what is your ecu #,61, 62,63,64,65 etc....(The big number on the ecu cover)

I got every thing working, except I am using ecu #61 and I think it is the wrong ecu, as I am only get a spark on cylinder #1, but none on the rest.I swapped the ignitor, but no luck, I check all the connections, and all measured and checked out good.

So, I believe I might have either the wrong ecu, or a bad one, so please share your ecu # with me and any other input.

Thank you,

PULSAR GTR

You might have bad coilpacks, however I know that the auto ECU's WILL work on manuals. The people say the #61 is an SR ECU, but I have a feeling its an NA SR20DE ECU. And the NA SR's have distributors.

To run that SR you need either an ECU #62, #63, E5, or J4 (after repinning a J4 it will work).

Well, thank you all for you input, I guess I have to get my hands on an ecu with #s 62 63 or what every you guys listed above.

coil packs are good as I took them and installed them on cyllinder # 1, and they all fired.

Thanks again,

The ECU from an auto sr20 will work just fine.

My mistake. I was under the impression that the pinouts were different, thus causing the coils not to fire.

Or is the #61 not SR20DET ecu's to begin with ?

So is there any performance difference between the 5spd & and auto SR20DET ecu ?

Type 61 is a Red Top ECU. 1991 - 1993 Sr20, Automatic.

It is my understanding that firing on one cyl is a sign of a 'wrong' computer. You are going to want to speak with experts like the people from Heavy Throttle. If I had to guess I'd say that you need the type 62.. but that is a guess.

Try and search I know that this firing on 1 only has been a problem in the past, and has been resolved in the past.

HI ALL,

Well, I was surffing the net insearch for some more details and what ecu # are and what are not, I found a site where one gentleman says, that the ecu #62 always works on RED tops regardless whether it is auto or standard, but ecu =61 or 63 some times they just don't work and causes cylinder # 1 only to fire.I think my buddy managed to find a 62 ecu, I will find out tomorrow if it works.

by the way here are the ecu info that I gathered from searching the internet.I can't tell you if this info is correct 100%, but I think that it can be a helpful info to most of us.

SR20DET#61 - 1991 to 1993 180SX/Silvia Redtop SR20DET, Automatic#62 - 1991 to 1993 180SX/Silvia Redtop SR20DET, Manual#63 - Jan 1991 to Jan 1994 180sx SR20DET, Automatic#E5 - 1994 to 1996 180SX Blacktop SR20DET, ManualE5 ecu is for S13 black top but apparently will work on an s13 red top without any mods#E6 - Jan 1994 to Aug 1996 180sx(RS13) Blacktop SR20DET, Automatic

#J7 - 1997 to 1998 180SX Type-X Blacktop SR20DET, Manual62 ecu is for SR20det RED top also works on black topWC ecu is for an s14WH zenky ecu from 96 96 eudm silviaJ4 ECU from a 1997 Black-Top (manual transmission)

#60 is some type of S13 ECU, not too sure what but its some SR ECU. Same with #61, thats an SR ECU of some sort. #62 is the manual S13 SR20DET Redtop ECU. #63 is the auto SR20DET Redtop ECU. E5 is the 1994-1996 S13 SR20DET Blacktop manual ECU and can run a redtop. E6 is the 1994-1996 S13 SR20DET Blacktop auto ECU and can run a redtop.J4 is the 1997-1998 S13 SR20DET Blacktop manual ECU and will cause a redtop and early blacktop to fire on only the first cylinder unless repinned.

The only differences between the auto and manual ECU in performance is that the auto has a higher idle (meaning unless you are stopped the engine doesnt want to drop to idle), and more aggressive idle (ie able to make the car roll from a stop in first gear). The auto ECU also ignores a manual TPS signal and runs off the other sensor inputs.

Hi all,

an update, well, I got an ecu # 62 and the car fired up from the first try, took it for a spin and was spinning tires all over the place as it was raining and it got open diff.

Well, for any one that wants to know, ecu #61 won't work with sr13RWD redtop, tried two of them and no luck. It will cause cylinder #1 to only fire and the rest won't fire.

Thank you all for your help and opinions
