Well, I am pretty much brand new to the whole ecu chipping deal. I have done some research however, but I am still a bit vague on what is exactly needed to get my ecu chipped.

I do know I need an ecu (common sense), but I also learned you need to soldier an adaptor of sort to fit a chip in order to work. Can anyone give me a run down on what is needed exactly (equipment and such) on getting my ecu prepared to fit a chip (looking into purchasing one from Horsham. But other options are welcomed)

My setup:- Stock block unopened engine- SR T25 turbo ( .64 turbine housing)- No BOV- Stock MAF (will be purchasing a Z32 in the near future)- 8 psi stock with no boost controller (I have a ball and spring turbosmart one waiting to be installed)- Stock side mount- Stock fuel system- 3inch exhaust (2.5 inch downpipe, 3 inch high flow and stainless exhaust all the way back)- HKS induction cone

I did do some searching on here and came up with a little info here and there, but nothing seemingly concrete. I have also emailed Horsham, but since I am sure he is quiet busy, I probably wont hear back from him for a few days maybe.

Thanks, Chris.

you need a software to edit the bin files, live edit. somthing to burn the chips, see moates products at moates.com ?the ECU socketed for the new chipa bunch of chips

i used to have all the equipment, for the cost i think i could have bought and assembled a megasquirt. i still have a cheap burner and UV chip eraser if anyone wants it. email me at [email protected]

If you've never used a soldering or desoldering (which is much trickier) iron, I wouldn't suggest doing this on your own. My advice would be to seek out a local electronics shop and have them remove the factory eprom and solder in a low-profile 28-pin socket. As for burning the chips, one of the $40 Willem programmers works fine. And for editing the files, romeditor or live edit work well.

Wasnt personally trying to do this myself but I will be getting an ecu to work with and see if I can figure this out. In the mean time, I will probably send my ecu out to a local electronics store and have em do me up a socket.

Now, about that 28 pin low profile socket, I take it once this is soldiered on, I can pretty much replace it with my factory chip until I can get a custom tuned chip and swap em out at pleasure??

Can you explain to me a little more about the process of burning a chip, bin files, tune and live edit?? I will be doing a search on here and I have been reading up on BIKIROM website about tuning and such.
