When Ruben Navarette isn't bellyaching about racism, he's usually nutswinging from the Presidential Nuts... However, this week, apparently he's decided he'd like to pretend to be a legitimate reporter:

Scary stuff, indeed - but haven't non-Dems been saying this all along?

The Obama administration has prosecuted six leak-related cases. That's more than all previous administrations combined.

But, according to Barry the Goon, we "need not worry about tyranny."

Bullcrap. I'm gonna play the race card here: If this POTUS was White, he'd have been impeached already. There - I said it. Feel free to freak out. :)

Hmmm... I'm not going to speculate on whether or not Obama's race has been protecting him from impeachment, but I think that statistic is pretty alarming.

The problem nowadays is that wiretapping is so rampant within the intelligence community, that we can't really even expect them NOT to do it anymore. They have been legally investing billions of dollars into snooping, and they are going to use it.

These leak-related cases have been brought forward because with modern technology and recent legal precedent, law enforcement and the courts are much more willing to count wiretapped evidence against the defendant.

Privacy for the individual (and in turn, journalists) will be completely gone in the next 10-20 years, and I don't think we can stop it.

It's one thing to tap targets of a criminal investigation.

It's another thing entirely to try to silence the media through intimidation - especially the same media that was such a force in getting him elected.

Let's not forget the hue and cry surrounding Watergate... how's this any different?

While I think you're right, Matt, it's not a foregone conclusion - privacy remains Constitutionally protected, and our politicians, judiciary and corporations would do well to remember that. Some of us are willing to defend our freedoms.

I 100% agree with you regarding the complete lack of respect for individual rights and how immoral and underhanded the Obama administration has been when dealing with whistleblowers and journalists.

Obama is exhibiting super shady, Nixon-type behavior...Power begets power.

I honestly don't even think you can defend against these types of intrusions with law or force. The intelligence and law enforcement community is fundamentally bureaucratic and departmentalized, and they have almost complete cooperation from the private communications sector. If they get orders to tap someone or snoop, they just go ahead and do it without any friction.

Yep. Honestly, it's scary. Not to be partisan, but this makes me wonder about the voting bloc that handed him the keys to the WH. Are Dems ok with this level of obfuscation and intrusion? Hasn't the Left traditionally opposed 'Big Brother'? Or is it ok as long as it's done by' their' guy? Seems painfully hypocritical to me.
