You need to run pressurized solvent through them while the engine is running. This requires some special equipment that really isn't worth buying, as almost any shop will do it for about $100.

I'll do it for the cost of the cleaner (~$15) if you'll take some mileage recordings for me. Shoot me an email if you're interested and if you don't mind driving out near LAX on a weekend. Open offer to any socal folks.

Just like 911/Q45 said, it's a solvent in an external container that's run through the fuel rail at a higher pressure than what the rail normally sees. Between the cleaner and the pressure the process attemps to remove any varnish/gunk in the nozzles. The engine runs on the solvent till it's gone.

The dirt would be internal... Once they're off there's not much you can do to clean them except send them off to have them bench cleaned. I'd put them back in with new o-rings and get a rail flush done as mentioned above.

Both, not a bad idea to replace the donut it fits into on the lower plenum runners too.

You'd have to have some sort of harness rigged up with 12V pulses to open and close the injectors... that's why it's so much easier with the rail on the car. Everything you need is there - just substitute the fuel source.

you should never have to if you run good gas and use Techron evey 6-12 months. Modern fuels that advertise 'clean-up' performance really do keep them clean.

Seeing you have removed your injectors, take them to a workshop that specialises in cleaning injectors & make sure they use a Sonic type of Machine as this system will clean as it pulses the injector. It will take a good 1/2 - 1 hour to do them properly & cost about $10-20 each.Don't mess around trying yourself. I repair cars for a living & I send them to the Professionals, as I don't have a cleaner.

Hello I'm a new member and since it sounds like you are the experts on Q's. What is the crankshaft position sensor. I have a 1990 Q45. It started to jerk and cut off when I stop. So I'm having problems if it's the fuel pump (5mos old) or a sensor. It's not turning over and I'm smelling gas. Someone told me the timing chain. I need help.

Something I posted 2 days ago:

The engine isn't turning over, meaning the crank isn't spinning at all, or it's just not firing?
