My friend is doing an exhaust on his s10 and wants a budget cheap 2.5", instead of paying a place to do it and mandrel bends I was thinking of suggesting this flex exhaust.

His exhaust merges into a 2.5" collector in the middle of the car and we want to use this flex to go from the middle to the rear and weld a 5" flat tip on the end of it. The exhaust needs to make 2 bends, one over the axle but theres quite a bit of room over it.

Would this flex stuff be good for that? Would it actually have ALOT of flex to it, enough to bend over an exle and back down.

Can you weld to it easily? Would probably need 2-3 hangers welded to the sides of it.

We dont have access to a chop saw anytime soon or a bender to make out own solid exhaust for the truck, so Im hoping this stuff works well and would last.

That stuff is not meant to be used for long runs and is ghetto as hell. Do it right and you don't have to worry about it falling apart later. The problem with half-assing things is these schemes frequently fail and need to be repaired or completely redone and in the final tally become more expensive than doing it the right way in the first place.

To get you started.

No.

You can't weld to it.

Repeated heating and cooling cycles, coupled with the EXTREMELY corrosive byproducts of combustion, plus water vapor, will render that stuff saggy and flapping against the underside of the vehicle before the week has passed.

Your friend has an S10. If it's modded enough to need an exhaust, then he has $250 to spend on a proper exhaust. If it's not modded, it doesn't need a different exhaust - tell him to save his money for propane and Cheez-Wiz.

my old exhaust was made almost entirely out of flex pipe like that. it ended up rusting into the form it took, so if you moved it, it would break apart and make holes.
that was another thing, holes everywhere. so many leaks that it was unbearable.
and for welding, it was pretty thin, so the welder i used melted right through it on some spots.
as TMS said, do it the right way.
