Actually, there is such a thing as a CANbus in your car. But, what it has to do with the original request associated with lighting is not clear yet.
Anyway, the CANbus is the network and protocol that allows signals to be sent around the car to the various processors for allowing functions to be performed.
For example, in the "old days", the switch for the headlights were direct connected to the battery and the actual lights. Meant hefty individual wiring carrying high-current everywhere.
Today, the switch sends a signal to a local processor, which inserts a signal on the CANbus, that tells the processor in the engine compartment to engage a relay to do the same job.
May seem more complex (and electronically it is), but the result is far less high-current wiring everywhere in the car.
There are lots of articles on the topic on the Internet ... do a search for "CANbus" to understand more details. It is quite a techie topic though.
