I have a 2006 M35x and was wondering if the bluetooth system can be upgrade to send and receive text messages.

If you try to talk to text on your iphone it's a huge pain because the system thinks you want to make a call, so there is a huge lag between what you say and what is typed, normally the first part gets cut off.

Did you hope to achieve displaying your text messages on the monitor? How did you expect to send them? This is considered a distraction while driving so if the functionality were built in it would be unusable unless the car is in Park or stopped with the parking brake engaged. But at that point why would it even matter when it's 100 times easier to use your phone?

Here is a simple option, using a text to speech app on the phone itself. The voice recognition for sending texts is much to be desired.

I certainly hope NOT. I'm sure Infinity will not provide you with an option that's sure to eventually injure / kill yourself or someone else.
Just ring up the person and speak please.

I have rented some vehicles with Microsoft Sync and if driver has a Windows phone, the text messages can be read to you when they arrive. Very convenient feature.
