Can Automatic transmission shift points be set in ECU?

Hopefully some of you guy's that have looked at EPROM maps will know. Although most people run 5 spd manual's so possibly no one has looked to see if an Automatic transmission ECU is different or has maps for the transmission shift points, anyone know? I mean why use a stall convertor if you can set them in the software.
