i once heard something about using a heat gun and peeling off the coating, but i heard it takes off the layer that prevents water from getting into the light area. This means rain/mist would rust up/ corrode your lights

YA- I know about Clearcorners.com. I just wanna be able to do it myself instead of paying 300 bux.I think the amber color goes all the way through, but how the F*** do you get the lense off without breaking it? I tried, but cracked one of my spares.

same, im thinking maybe some very corrosive material will eat away at the glue and then heating it up w/a heatgun. i heated my so much that the plastic began to melt. hondas are alot easier, its a very soft silicone..

1) Soak taillights in above said sauce, including a little of this

I don't know if it's rice, but before I focused on the picture it automatically reminded me of my brother's 1999 civic ex. I would't say that's a great thing. Ofcourse, I could just be crazy. I'm not sure if the lights are doing that or the wheels... or the sideskirts.

No way are those taillights rice. They're HOT.

The tinted red/white ones are even sweeter.

BTW, the lights made by CC.com are done by gutting the upper lens portion and replacing it with clear plastic diffuser material.

Yah I seen a write up somewhere. they just brake the amber protion of the lights and then they go to homedepot and get the light fixture cover the big sheets and cut them to shape and glue it on. Thats it. I forgot the link but I'll try to find it.

If you look at the white protion of the lights you can tell it is from the light fixture cover sheets.

They probably use a hairdryer or heat gun to bend the material to the radius of the light-just a thought.

If that is rice then I guess Im going to be a ricer cause those lights are sweet looking. Put some Amber LEDs in them with the clearn would be clean looking. Also the same for the side markers on the car. Clear with Amber LEDs.

I've successfully removed the amber lens twice though I cracked the first one because I was too impatient. The procedure is actually quite simple. First, flip over the tail light and remove the 6-8 small black phillips screws that hold on the lens. Next pop the whole thing in the oven at 300 degrees for 10-12 mins so the glue softens up. Remove the assembly from the oven ONLY DO ONE OF THEM AT A TIME with some cheap oven mits and take a wide, super thin and flat scraper and stick it inbetween the lens and the housing body. Gently pry the lens upwards and away from the housing. The glue will be super sticky and DO NOT get any on the lens because it's a ***** to get off. The glue hardens up pretty quickly once you take it out of the oven so you will have to put it back in 2-3 more times before you'll be able to get the lens off. Just be patient or you'll **** it up. I did this when I made my LED tail lights. (Please don't ask for a write up because I don't have one and I don't have time to write it up because it was very complicated).

BTW, the clearcorners.com clear lenses ARE NOT Home Depot fluorescent overhead lighting panels cut to fit the tail light body!! They are automotive grade diffusing plastic that I have not yet been able to find. If I could, I would have put in some clear lenses when I did my retrofit.

Don't say I never gave you anything!

For those who don't know, he's being sarcastic. JDM tails are the same as USDM.

trust me. you'll be saving yourself a lot of pain in the *** if you just go with the purchase. in time, you're DIY job will just end up costing you more money. You said it yourself. You should know best.

Personally, I'd go with Kouki.

The Z32 tail lights have removable amber lenses. I opened a S14 tail light hoping to find the same thing, but I was disappointed...

I'd like to see a pic with the Home Depot clear plastic in place.
