I can't check the fluid level in my transmission, which isn't a problem assuming it's not leaking. Anyway, if I have the output shaft seal off, oil comes out. Assuming the car is level, after I replace the seal, how much more oil should I add? I have to add it through the shift hole.

Thanks,

Darian

PS It's the CA 5-speed manual transmission.

While your already down there replacing the seal, it would sure make logical sense to just undo the fill hole on the side of the transmission. Then fill it till fluid starts to come out of the fill hole.

That fill hole is stuck in there. We had the car on a rack were using a long bar and no dice...

Long bar no good.

Use longer bar.

Seriously, though, you could always drain it all out if you can get the drain plug out. Then you know exactly how much to put in. I can't remember the exact amount, but I think it's like 5 pints (2 1/2 quarts), isn't it?

The correct level is the fill plug on the side with the car on flat, level ground. Fill until the oil starts to come out of the fill plug, then stop and re-install fill plug.
