can anybody help with haltech?!!

im having issues connecting my haltech e6k to my computer. ive tried several computers with different versions of windows. with the serial cable connected to my comp. i started the program in online mode and it says its retrieving info. from the ecu. (0%.........100%) then it just stops on that screen without any progress. everything is connected, car is turned on but not cranked. idk what the problem is!
