I've been through 4 transmissions in the last 2 weeks, and I'm through with this used bullsh1t. The trans makes a whining noise on acceleration and grinding on deceleration, can a local trans shop rebuild this for me?

Yeah. Just tell them it's a trans out of a 240sx. The SR and KA use identical bits. The only difference is the 5th gear. But given that 5th gear doesn't see the use/abuse of the first few gears, it should be ok. More than likely though, a whining noise sounds like a bearing to me. Which shouldn't be too hard for a place like aamco to fix

why haven't you tried to replace the TOB yet? i didn't know you'd been through that many transmissions. and the TOB's are cheap. a lot cheaper than the transmissions.

Yea, unless your running over 400tq, you shouldnt be destroying transmissions. Sounds like the TOB to me too.

I haven't been destroying them, they come to me already bad. water sat in my first one for a while and that ended up being bad, the second one was a KA and 5th was out, reverse was being a ***** to find, the third was from a local engine importer, noyanusa.com, that one ended up grinding and whining just like my first one, so i got the fourth one under their warranty and that one ends up grinding on decelleration between 2200 and 3000rpms. So the internals of the sr and ka are the same? they looked different to me when i took them out of their casings

check your engine and trans mount. Makes a grinding noise in 4th and 5th could be vibration from the motor. I'm running stock engine mount and it started make that noise when install my vlsd with the wrong size drive shaft. During that 2 day of driving it shot my motor mount. Will be installing cusco soon

i have new nismo mounts, and this trans does it in every gear, theres light grinding noise on acceleration, very faint. my driveshaft has a TINY TINY TINY bit of play in it, like half a millimeter or so from the gearbox, is that normal? also the input shaft hada tiny tiny tiny bit of play also
