can a sohc take a new celica?

just wondering because i was driving home tonite and as i'm passing this celica i hear him downshift and try to keep up with me. so i punch it and we start going up a hill and i left him in the dust.

was the celica a GT-S? if it was, it should have been the one to leave you. even going up a hill, the 240's torque wouldn't stay ahead of 180hp. and having a SOHC wouldn't help any either. i dont know what to tell you other then that

i thought it was odd that i left him like that too. i dunno i know he was trying to beat me cuz when i hit traffic and slowed down he flew by me weaving in and out of traffic like a dumb *** with his neon lites.

hmm. you sure it was a 5speed? it could have been a automatic GT. those are very slow. because of the torque and the 5speed (i'm assuming) you have, you might have been able to pull on him that hard

my girlfriend has a gt automatic and its not too fast, but its not real slow either. i leave her by 3-4 car lengths in my 91 5spd at about 75mph

yea, a 5spd SOHC or DOHC should leave a GT auto w/ decent driving

from first hand experince me and my two boys went draging in the back of timbercreek and i raced my one boy with his rsx auto and intake and i lost to him by like half a car and then i raced my other boy in his 01 celica gt 5 speed and he just out and out smooked me it was embarassing but then again i had a dieing engine!...but even now he would still beat me but not by 2 1/2 - 3 car lengths
