can a put an 87 300z transmission into an s13? my buddy wants to sell me his automatic s13, and i wanna know if i can switch the entire transmission with my 5 sp. 300z non-turbo.

Absolutely. DOn't forget to mount it to a VG30 though. Or use the appropriate bell housing. Which, depending on what transmission you actually have, may need to be custom made.

I believe the trans will go in if you swap the front case's and countershaft bearings, thats how I bolted a KA 5 speed to my L6, you'd need a ka front case and countershaft at the very least, so you might as well just try locating the propper transmission, the bellhousings are nothing alike

Depends on the transmission. The 87 models came with two different manual transmissions. The KA manuals used the same basic transmission as the NA Z31s. But the turbo Z31s used a much stronger (and bigger) transmission. I don't believe there were any KA motors that used that transmission, so he'd have to have a custom made bell housing or adapter plate.

And finding just the bell housing might be a little more difficult than just buying a manual 240SX transmission. I've seen them go for as little as $100 on the local 240 site.
