Can a ka24e truck block go into a 240 ?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

Before anyone says do a search I already have searched and found a list of differences but nothing saying it will or will not go into a car. I have just come across a used truck engine in need of a rebuild for free and was wanting it to rebuild to avoid as much down time when swapping engines. I didnt ask what year truck it came from but it appears to be a late 80's or early 90's model truck from the looks of it. I was going to get some different rods and obviously new pistons so the only concern for me is if I can use the 240 oil pan and pickup, crank issues such as the balancer end, and motor mount fitment. I really dont even necessarily need the head if it wont work and I know that the cams are different. Thanks in advance,

Phil

yes, it will fit. You need to swap oil pans, oil pickup, oil filter mount, engine mount brackets, and the dipstick hole is in the wrong place, so drill a new one and plug the old...plus you will only have half of the transmission mouting bolts because the truck block is lacking the skirt of the japanese motor. Also the starter is different, you will need to use the truck starter and harness pigtail...

Fahaka is right. However you must keep the truck crank with the truck block. and the car crank with the car block. the back of the block is thicker on the d21 than on the s13, and as a result the crank is longer for the truck than the car. so if you put a car crank in a truck block the flywheel WILL hit the back of the block.

ps yes this is first hand advice I tried it

what exactly do you mean that the truck block isnt skirted like the car block ? from what i saw by looking at the motor on the ground the block came down way below the crank centerline like on my car. or are you talking about some extra skirting around the rear of the block somewhere ? also would you recommend that i just stick with a car block for any reason ? i do plan on going turbo and running upwards of 12 psi so i definately need something durable enough. thanks for the info because i would have to put money into this engine and find out it wont work.

I mean skirted at the back of the block to match up with the transmission.

As for turbocharging...the motors are the same as far as I can see...but the truck motor is made in Mexico...

i looked at the block again and found the difference you mentioned. personally i dont trust it to run high hp with because there are half of the bolts mating it to the trans. seems to me that it could mean a potential cracked block or trans case from the stress. but i have come up with a game plan though. i first need to make sure the block is usable because the motor seized up so it may have spun a main bearing. after that i will do a rebuild and make it basically stock with a few low cost upgrades. then after i have done that i can take my time and build my stock block to be able to handle all the boost i can throw at it. it works better for me because i know my engine is getting tired and im not sure if it will last long enough for me to save enough money to build it right. this way the truck engine will buy me plenty of time
