Part of it is the LS got better with each generation, while the Q45 got worse- from decontenting along the way to not even having a 4.5 liter engine to match the name on the trunk lid to swapping a cheaper model{cima} and slapping the Q45 name on it, to major oil burning issues and quality issues.......Of course there is real reason fans of the original Q are up in arms, as nobody wants to see their favorite car become a shadow of what it once was. The F50 is not a terrible car, it just was never the true flagship competitor to Lexus/MB/BMW/Audi like it should have been. Had the Q improved every generation like the LS did, the F50 would have been a beast and real contender in the super lux market- everyone is kinda mad and sad at the same time that Infiniti totally dropped the ball and missed the mark with the evolution of the Q series. Soo bad that the Q series is extinct, while the LS soldiers on as one of the best sedans in the world and sells in great numbers among its competitors.....

The topic of this sentence is 'bashing' (which the mods seem to think doesn't exist)

But the following post by q96 somehow picks up on the word LEXUS and gives the readers digest version of why Q suck and LS is a better car.

so, if the F50 didn't suck then you wouldn't bash us????

Over on the M site when someone goes off topic like q96 just did...they actually apologize for seeming to hi-jack the thread.

The post was "CAN a 2002 Q45 get 31mpg on the freeway?" that was a question.Qtech actually, in his wikopedia kinda way, provided a very good possible solution to the posted question and anybody else who could listen.I actually call my tire shop and confirmed what Qtech said...the optimal time to do Nitro is when the tire is new.

Like wes implied, who care what your car gets or doesnt get? the post was specific to the 02F50.

And finally, paul, are you going to ask someone to hold your blanket for you also? You actually posted that your lack all selfcontrol concerning where to post. obviously.

Again, I was was not surprised by the answers and attitudes reflected here. I have 185k on my 02F50 and can assure you that I have a base line for mpg based on countless road trips in northern ca. To say that I need to 'take a real trip' to answer the post question is like saying" 'go screw' we arent going to be helpful".

What mpg I get or don't get isn't really irrelavent to the post, is it?

again, CAN (ie:is it possible) for a 02F50 to get 31mpg? not "DID I"possiblities: reprogram ecu for lean burn?Upsize on tire size?run nitro in tires?run 45 psi?improve aerodynamics?run 0-30 synthetic oil?run synth in rear end?leave mpg screen on?

get the idea?

ps to mods: of the 100 or so F50s in the picture section, how many are still posting? and those are just the ones who cared enough to post a picture. let's not even concider the one time noobs who got short curt answers.THe bottom line to NICO? who gives a crap about a dead car?

Man, what is everyone beating crews up for so bad?

God forbid some members make some posts with actually trailblazing - regardless of whether it's beneficial information (which I believe this to be), the amount of beating he's taken merely for presenting a perfectly reasonable data set is amazing.

Seriously, his bed post line hit it home.

Posts like this ARE of value.

Whether you drive a v8 or a 4 cylinder, mileage is a concern. If you got 3mpg, would you care? Of course. If you got 80 mpg, would you care? Of course. What you're saying is you don't want to take the time to split hairs and determine exactly the 15-25mpg we all suspest. Most of us don't - MrCrews did and the information is valuable.

I'm surprised with the "educated" minds on here no one actually COMPLIMENTED him on his efforts to be scientific and eliminate all variables. Allow me to be the first.

Hats off to obviously spent hours of time a research, and the care to post back here.

Rest assured for each of those that have nothing better to offer that negativity, there are more silent readers that choose not to post.

Wes,
elwesso wrote:mcrews, just wondering, when you claim 31MPG, did you reset the MPG calculator on the dash during a steady cruise, or is that average over say a tank of gas, where you divide the # miles driven/gallons used.

Just curious on how you calculated it, a number is only as good as the place it came from.
Wes, you inadvertently created alot of this firestorm when you said "I CLAIMED" I NEVER CLAIMED 31mpg. I asked If it was possible?

and then when I answered your question I was clear to state that my recent high mpg were in a controlled limited environment.

finally, I had already clearly stated in my second post that I had consistant high mpg road trips already under my belt.I have consistantly gotten 25 to 27mpg in the Q on road trips.

Rob,spot on! That is one of the main points of this post. So many mental gaints think "big sedan - V8 - go fast - bad mileage"

BEACAUSE the 02F50 is light weght (compared to others) has a decent rear ratio & Cd and an effecient engine it allows for the mpg effeciencies.over on the nissian side the was a thread about mpg on one of the eco models. They were talking about la to san fran in the middle of the summer with the a/c off to get 35pmg!!!! I have never turned my a/c off!

I can.

It's called a ban.

Remember, we endured a TON of nonsense from you when you first got here. Have some patience - we did.

Nice work :bigthumb:
I like the tracking spreadsheet. I'm assuming RPM is the average RPM for the trip? Is IGN the average iginition timing? What are FWT and FIA? What do the numbers for load mean?

A lot of this thread, however, is a prime example of the things that annoy me about this forum. Rather than a reasoned discussion, it devolves into a know-it-all flame fest.

*************thanks :)

**********************8The only 'average' reading on the gauge is the mpg. I don't really care for the instant mpg because it really doesn't help (me).
the other readings (up to 16) are instant.
There is a little disconcect between the instant numbers and the avg mpg.
What I did was to check the gauge at times I was going level and had been on cruise. That way there was some basis. I would also reset the 'avg' button at times.

I'm assuming RPM is the average RPM for the trip?
*********THe RPM is the rpm at the time I entered the figures.

Is IGN the average iginition timing?
**************yes, this is the timing. It's important because (when I run lower octane) the timing wont go to 36-37 but sets to a lower number.

What are FWT
************is the water temp that is recorded by the engine

and FIA?
****************fia is the air temp at the Mas Air Sensor

What do the numbers for load mean?

*****************************load is the % of the engine 'potential or capacity' being used. Heading up the 'grapevine' (6% grade signs on the downside) the load can be 90-95%
coming down a steep grade the load can be at 17-19%

I was trying to post the actual numbers at the time listed. So I could see the different results on different parts of the trip.
I was especially interested in the results at the variuos altitude levels
THe instument that i use is a SCANGAUGE II.
http://www.scangauge.com/
It gives instant read outs
It can be set specificly for each car.
It plugs into the obd port.
