totally spaced out the other day and pumped 17 gal. 87 into my 96Q. realized it when i hung up the pump nozzle. thought i would just drive her really easy till i could put some 93 in her or locate some toluene. she immediatly started running like crap! the ususl bucking & jerking. i finally got some 93 into her + a quart of toluene and a bot. of isoheet. she still aint rite. its as if i randomly turn the key off. is it possible that a marginal KS would finally fail because of the 87 octane? service records do not show any KS replacement in its 110k miles, although this Q has had all its service done by an infin dealer till i got it at 98k. im rite in the middle of my busiest fishing time, it is impossible for me to undertake on a project of this size at this time. on an earlier post someone mentioned installing a 500 ohm resistor. i fully realize that this is a desperate measure, well maybe im that desperate. wher would one install this? it would be a tempoary jury rig till august when ill have time to do all the proper things including all the under the devil plenun items. would i just be better off driving as is? sorry for the longggg post.

HELP ME PLEASE

bad knock sensor will throw a obd2 code-look at ecu or get codes read at autozone etc my 96q with 176,000 miles still is on original k/s with no problems or codes

KS fail only from overheats or more than 7 years exposure to Southern heat and some times from expose to coolant leaking/spraying under plenum in combination.

The resistance is 550,000 ohms [470k +100k in series are suitable] not as easy as you think to jury rig, as you have to find the one and cut up the harness - careful the coolant temp to ecu runs in the same harness.Whatever you do don't bypass both of them in Summer heat

Even with 87 octane and bad KS it should still run OK... It should still run smooth with no driveabilty problems except being a little slower.

Im wondering if the MAF conveniently went bad at the same time?

The 96 seems/acts up more severely with KS codes than the OBD1 ecued units. Some 94-95 engines with dirty plugs, etc seem worse than 90-93 units. It varies and we have never bothered to look for exact reasons.

finally got to autozone. no codes given. my understanding of the ecu is limited but i thought any time your vehicle farts, coughs or hicups that the ecu would throw a code and then that code corresponds to malfuntion. where is my thought process flawed? also, if any time a code is thrown does that cause the CEL to illuminate? mine says OK. i cant even pass the tourists on the seven mile! where do i start trouble shooting with no codes? thanx as usual.

Did the 87 octane have ethanol?............water ........isoheet after the fact can only absorb 10-11 ounces and you might have gotten significantly more water. Call the station and ask if others have had problems?

What is WOT fuel pressure?
