So yesterday, I broke my exhaust camshaft (KA24DE).I'm lookin to buy a new one, but nothing performance, because I am cheap.

Autozone sells one, shown here: http://autozone.com/servlet/Ui...SHAFT

My problem- they tell me that this is the 'universal' cam, and that it should work fine as either the intake or exhaust cam side.

This is a DOHC motor, and there are two cams. What do I know about cams? Practically nothing. But I would assume the two are slightly different.

I need to get on this quick. It's priced well, and if it will be fine, I'm gonna make the buy. But I need to know if this will work, and if I can put this in the exhaust side and keep the stock intake one in there.

People have modified exaust cams to fit on the intake as an upgrade with the KA, so I assume this one from autozone is cast so it can fit either side to begin with. I'd say go for it, although buying a used one would be cheaper.

Cheaper, perhaps.

But I need it by thursday, and I need guarantee.I'd rather not buy something used, just to have the cam bust apart and seize the whole engine.

But yeah, I like cheap.

Do you have an s14?

I think both cams in the s14's are the same (232/232) so that is probably why they are universal.

I wouldn't really worry that a used cam would "bust apart and seize the whole engine", I have never heard of that happening before. But you are right, newer is better.

Well if the cram cracks while the motor is running that valves could get stuck down and when the pistons hit em... its done for.

cams don't just break apart.

Used ones with minimal wear are just fine.

Sorry to inform, but my pop bought a brand new exhaust cam from one of the online dealers. Said it was a gift.

Thanks, however, for the help.

It wasn't hard to break, either. In that Jim Wolf writeup on the cam alignment, it says that the grooves can get stuck in the first runner. That's what happened with mine, and only a little force in the wrong way broke off the front part, that is against the sprocket when bolted together.

Hope that wasnt too difficult to understand...
