Hello All,
I looked for the "beating dead horse" smilie but it wasn't there. Anyway, two years ago my 2002 pathfinder was rough starting and stalling. I pulled the code. It said camshaft sensor. I took it to Nissan and they did a whole bunch of other work. The problem persisted and eventually after a great deal of prodding they changed the camshaft sensor. The problem resolved. I should have done it myself in the first place. Lesson learned.

Now two years later same issue. I have been researching and apparently they should have done both camshafts and the crankshaft sensor at the same time. I confirmed this by calling Nissan. I then asked why they didn't do that two years ago and the guy said "I don't know. I didn't work here then." Awesome.

So now I'd like to replace both camshaft and the crankshaft sensor. I know where the driver's side one is on the front of the engine but am not sure about where the passenger side one is. I also don't know where the crank shaft sensor is.

I also want to confirm that I should order/replace two camshaft sensors (which are the same from what I have read) and one crankshaft sensor.

Lastly, can I order an aftermarket part like the Beck Arnley Crankshaft Position Sensor Part Number: 180-0261 at Canada Parts on line or do I have to buy the Nissan part?

Thank you very much for your help with this. Hopefully this can be the last cam/crankshaft sensor thread lol

Are you having issues with it or are you just looking to replace them for peace of mind?

It is surprising common for shops to leave functional items alone if they are not going to be covered under factory warranty.

As far as the sensors go, I think there is just one camshaft sensor and then there are two crankshat sensors, one is just above the oil filter and the other is right above the rear lip of the oil pan.. Pretty sure need to remove the shield to get at it.

I'm getting rough starts and the code I'm pulling is P1145 (driver side camshaft sensor).
From what I understood on my model there is another camshaft sensor on the passenger side and just the forward crankshaft by the oil pan. I'll have a look at the Hanes manual. Mine is an 02 SE 3.5litre engine 6 cylinder. Perhaps someone can confirm the sensors if they have the same model. I did call Nissan and they said that normally if you get that code they do all three at once. I guess there is an issue with them.
My plan now is to buy the parts at Nissan. At least they'll know which ones.
Thanks for your reply!
