Car: Nissan 93 240SX hatchback

I had to replace the head on my 240sx, everything is back together except cams, sprockets and timing chain. Crankshaft is on TDC. Lower chain was not completely removed. I did notice that the mating mark on the Idler sprocket and the mating mark on the lower chain were not in sink. The mating mark on the idler sprocket was one link to the left of the silver mating mark on the chain. Since the car was running great before I replaced the head, I'm thinking it was advanced or replaced wrong. I put it back the way it came off. My problem starts with the upper chain. I have a mating mark on the idler sprocket and upper chain, to help in the alignment of the upper chain but I have no mating marks on the rest of the chain to align the mating marks on the cam sprockets. I remember the lobes on the intake cam for cylinder #1 were at 9 o'clock at TDC, but I can't remember if the lobes on the exhaust were opposite position at 3 o'clock or slightly less. I looked at some great pictures from an article about getting rid of timing chain rattle in the archives and the two pictures that I saw of the cams, cam sprocket and timing chain (my chain is like his, only one mating mark),it looked like they were totally opposite each other. Could use some help. Need to get this car running. Thanks in advance

I have the whole FSM for my car, but the section on mating marks doesn't help me since my upper timing chain only has one mating mark. So is that one mating mark to align the chain to the idler sprocket mating mark, I think it is. What position are the cams in when I put the chain on the cam sprocket. There is only one way the sprocket will go on the camshaft, I get that. But you could put the camshaft in any rotation position you wanted and I dont want any bent valves. I remember the intake cam lobes on TDC are at 9 o'clock for cylinder #1 but can't remember if exhaust cam lobes for #1 are at 2, 2:30 or 3 o'clock, totally opposite Intake

your exhaust should be at 3 oclock. there are 8 chain links between timing marks.
