I was wondering what cams you guys would suggest. I was thinking Tomei but I have heard there were some quality issues in the past. I am hoping they fixed these issues but im not sure. I also noticed that HKS makes some cams for the CA18DET as well and was wondering if these were any good.

So what degree and duration would you guys suggest for me. Its my daily driver but I live in an area where it never gets below 40deg so thats not an issue and neither is altitude. I want a good overall cam and the only time I push my car hard would be in the mountins grip driving. I almost never drag race as well. The motor is basicly stock besides the basic bolt ons and I never plan to push more than 300hp.

I was thinking some 256's but would 264's be better? Thx guys

i'd go 256. it'd probably just be a better size considering the rest of the head is stock. if you were trying for 350+hp i'd say 264, but for what u want, i'd just use the 256s. tomei makes good stuff, so pick em up if u can. SPLparts.com can get em.

Interesting, the reason why I thought 264's is the nature of the motor. It tends to have most of its power in the mid/high rpm range but down low it doesnt pull much. 256's would help the low end more and are a great set of cams for a pretty stock motor.

As for the whole head issue, I plan to throw in some valve springs when I get cams but I forgot to mention that.

The 256's are actually rated as one of the best performing camshafts for the CA and SR engines. The 264's are good for engines with a 8000 rpm rev limit that can take advantage of the added duration, or a larger turbocharger.

256's would be awesome for you. I plan to run a 256 on my SR.

keep in mind, this engine makes VERY little power below 3000rpm so you're gonna want that lower end grunt to get out of the hole.256 looks like the one for you. plus, if you ever go crazy with the engine you can easily upgrade.
