Here's the deal: my 93 240 KA has an idle knock, almost squeak if you will. I've been told 2 things from mechanics at home and at Nissan. One, is that it could be injectors, and the other is that my Cams are wearing down and becoming bad, and it's because the cams(im assuming drive the lifters?) are made differently than normal cams, using and almost triangular shape, rather than the oval shape used normally.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem with cams, and if it is the cams, what set of cams are performance or better for the KA24de that i have.

One other thing for the techies: My driver side LOCK motor is kind of broken: What's wrong is that the motor is stuck CONSTANTLY unlocking the door, and because of it, It is hard to even get the door lock down, just to have the unlocking happen right away. an alternative is to disconnect the rod running to the main rod for the lock, and make the lock manual, but I'd like to fix the motor if possible. Thanx:D

that lock thing happened to me, on my car, it thought that a door was open so it wouldnt stay locked, so i open and slammed the passenger side door and it went away-try it.

where is this knock/squeak coming from. and those two are totally different sounds...knock-squeak?

if it is the mystery noise heard from the front of the timing cover bump your idle up 150 rpm and recheck for noise should be ok.

the squeak/noise i hear from engine that i think might be cams, only happens at 1000 to 1150 rpms when idling. Its not an injector knock, that was me not thinking saying that, Ive had a car with bad injector knock before. It isn't that. It bothers me though, and I was wondering if it was cams, so I'd be able to fix it right away.

The sound comes from about dead center ontop of the engine, sounding about 2 to 3 inches in the middle under the cover, and knocks every revolution. If I make it idle at 1100 it knocks, and when i first start it to let it warm up, it idles around 1100 and knocks, so whatever it is, it's coming at those RPM's solely.

front internal I assume?

Also, if it's timing chain, whats the strongest(best) kit for fixing this permanently? bear in mind this is goin drag so it needs to be race worthy kits or parts.

if this is the noise i`m thinking of........it is coming from the two upper timing chain guides. does it sound like a cricket at idle? if so, remove the two small upper chain guides. i have removed them from many ka`s to eliminate this noise without any negative effect plus they have been deleted on any engine after 96.
