Can anyone recommend a good set of cams that won't sacrifice any torque? My car is an auto, so losing torque would be really bad. I checked the FAQs on this, and they recommend either a set from an Altima or an earlier 240sx. Are these the best choices, or are there other better ones?

short of a custom ground set of cams, those really are the best choice.

What are the horsepower and torque gains that could be expected from the Altima and early-model 240sx cams? The FAQ says 22HP from the Altima cams, but that's all the info that's given. I'm not too sure about custom-ground cams due to cost. If anyone knows of a place that will do it for a couple hundred bucks, though, then that sounds pretty good. I could probably get a set from a wrecked Altima for a hundred bucks or less, though. Any advice and HP/Torque figures would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using http://www.pdm-racing.com cams and love em.

Still retains smooth idle with good mid-range to upper end power gains.

I think jwt makes a set as well. So does nismo.

the altima cams is a myth. you can put in 91 240 cams they are the most aggressive. you should be able to find those for about $100 its either that or pdm-racing regrinds for about 450 including new shims

Myth eh? You might want to check the duration specs on the Altima intake cam vs. the 240SX cam.

Thank you drive through.

It is a myth that the altima cams work... Many many knowledgeable people have said nothing but that they dont. The duration may be listed the opposite but something else doesnt fly with them... If they did, relocating an s13 exhaust 248 cam 4 knotches so that It can be used as an intake, (just did this tonight from a 240-248 s13 to a 248-232 both exhaust cams none repinned), the repinning of cams, and the fact nissan of north america uses repinned exhaust cams (doubtfully to save cost if there is a drop in eh?), all would sease to exist.

Then again the 91's having the best is also a myth. All dohc s13 cams from 91 to early 93 have the same grinds...When they removed the SCV from the intake manifold mid 93' they started using 232-232 grinds from then on...

Btw 240-248 is nice I rode to daytona on that today (and have for nearly 2 yrs), and on the way home I rode on a 248-232 setup. As I just got home and am on 38hrs of awakeness with a 45 minute nap 13 hrs ago... I cant tell you how much, or if I really like it... Tommorow is a new day and possibly a 248-240 setup :)

Installing cams delerious and sleep deprived, especially using a stock 248 exhaust on the intake having never done so before, is both very scary and extreamely humorus... ah good times good times.

You dont need to run hot to have a small block hot cam car rattling idle. Take a 248 exhaust cam put it into the intake side, and rotate it 3 notches vs 4.... Mate that to a stock 232, and the engine looks like its a bout to jump out of the engine bay, while getting ready to explode.... I really didnt care and stomped it / took it for a run anyway hehe knowing something was wrong, but not what, I just didnt hear **** smashing so its all good... Sleep deprivation and precision mechanics dont mix and make for some off the wall decisions hehe

It is so very linear though straight through the whole band.... Then you let off the gas and the car nearly dies hehe

I would perfer to have that type of responce vs the properly installed 248 using 4 notches (the fixed way hehe) if the idle wasnt such ****.
