Remove your valve cover, then line up your pistons to #1 TDC by turning the crank pulley with a ratchet... Turn it until you see the needle line up to the 2nd to left mark on the crank pulley & your distributor rotor is pointing to #1 on the cap.
Also, check to make sure that the darker chain links line up with the notch both the cam sprockets.
ONLY THEN can you start to replace the cams... do one at a time, the intake first then the exhaust... loosen up the cam sprocket bolt and remove the sprocket, being careful to keep the chain tensioned.. when the sprocket's out, remove your cam towers and replace the cam - the notch should line up in the same position as old. torque down the cam tower bolts and put the sprocket back on and tighten bolt.
Repeat same procedure for other cam. If done correctly, the dark links should still line up with the notches on the sprocket & the crank should still be at 0deg (shouldn't have moved).
Give the crank a few turns with a ratchet to make sure everything's good - if it gets hard to turn, STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING as your valves are hitting the pistons because your timing is off. If it turns nicely and everything still lines up after a few turns, start up the car!
