Does he have SOHC or DOHC?

I like the NISMO ones, they were great for my beast.

SOHC... $317.50These cams are designed for the SOHC 12 valve KA24 engine. The R4 camshaft is a mild range/loopy idle for manual trans cars and the R6 is a milder cam designed to work with automatic trans. The R5 race cam requires the use of race pistons and alternate valve train components. When installing any new camshaft, new OE rocker arms must be used. OE rocker arm ratio is 1.422:1.

DOHC... $640.08These camshafts are designed for the KA24DE engine. The 91-94 240SX/S13 camshafts had a duration of 248 degrees and the 95 and later 240SX/S14 had a duration of 232 degrees. The #1 camshaft is a mild upgrade for the 95 and later 240SX and the #2 camshaft fits both the 240SX/S13 and the 240SX/S14.

The #2 camshaft is 275 degrees both sides.

Im guessing its a DE, so...

Other than Nismo, look into JWT S1's (.390" Lift/275 Degree Duration)http://www.jimwolftechnology.com

and PDM (Intake 221 duration .379 lift; Exhaust 231 duration, .390 lift.)http://www.pdm-racing.com

PDM's site has before/after dyno charts too.

Wow... those are some expensive cams. Check out PDM/Colt cams.

PDM's are re-grinds.

These are genuine new cams. You get what you pay for.

oooo and if you install NISMO stuff it doesnt void your warranty. If you still have one that is. Its as close to oem as you can get.

Good point and deffinatly worth considering.

The PDM cams are still a little cheaper though. Their dyno charts can be found here => http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/cam_corner.htmlAny idea what the Nismo cams put down with a similiar setup?

It's not like cams are high wear items and if the duration and overlap a person wants is available in a regrind then I don't see a point in paying for more than a regrind. Am I missing something here?

Oh and PDMs SOHC cam is still a regrind.

2 things to note:

1) "NISMO" DOES NOT make cams for the KA..."Nissan Motorsports USA" does...

2) The Nissan Motorsports stage 1 cams are hardly an upgrade for any S13...they are 2 S13 exhaust cams, one repinned for use in the intake spot (248/248 duration...stock S13 is 240/248) Good cams for an S14, but the S13 needs more than NM-USA Stage 1 stuff to see big gains.

OK smartguy.

Look halfway down the page from the link right here...http://www.nismoparts.com/catalog/?section=324

Now tell everyone what the logo next to the KA24DE camshafts says...?

Also as I said earlier but you obviously didnt read,

The PDM's are only 272. I'd definatley say that is larger. And i said nothing about using the #1 cams. Okay so quit starting stuff with me.

I don't think that website is affiliated with Nissan in any way other than selling parts.

http://courtesyparts.com/secondtier_s13.html

These guys are the parts department for Courtesy Nissan, a dealer in Dallas, and they're listing all of the KA stuff under Nissan Motorsports. Though it is sublinked as Nismo I don't think thats what they are under officially.

Are cam grinds read the same as shot gun gauges where smaller numbers = bigger gains? Or are they read in the traditional fashion? I don't know squat about the things.

Nismo does make a billet cam for the SOHC but it comes unground. They're $200. Any ideas about how much it would be to have them ground?

JWT sport cams are 274/274 .390" lift on both sides and if u get them direct from JWT they are in the range of $525 for the set...not 100% on that. But a quickie on gen cam info:

When looking at a set of cams:

1.) Consider your application....race cams on a fairly stock daily driver = rough idle, questions from the cops, and doesnt always mean big gains.

2.) Lift......the depth the valve drops into the cylinder....generally the more lift, the greater the volume of air the valve can get through it before it shuts. Huge lift is not always the best way to go.

3.) duration and overlap....duration is the amount of "time" (degrees of rotation) that a cams lobe holds the valve open (i.e 274 duration means that for 274 degrees of that cams 360 degree movement for one complete rotation, the valve is open.) The longer the valve stays open, the more air can enter the cylinder.....again, consider your application....big duration usually mean large overlaps between the intake and exhaust cams. Overlap is the amount of rotation in the intake and exhaust cams where the I/E valves are both open simultaneously. This generally takes place when the piston is pushing exhaust gas out of the cylinder. The overlap is used to make intake air help push exhaust gas out and at the same time aid the intake air in entering the engine more efficiently (think along the lines of a vacuum, as the exhaust gas exits, the incoming fresh air is pulled into the engine by the vaccum created by the exiting exhaust gas). This makes engine have to work less to draw air into the cylinder. This helps reduce parasitic power loss (the less work an engine has to put in to running itself the more efficient it is) and improves hp gains......once again, everything in moderation....huge overlap is not always the answer....

Your application is the number one item to consider when choosing a cam setup. NA and Turbo setups dont like the same cam grinds. Huge overlap in a set of turbo cams actually helps to defeat the function of the turbo by allowing some of the compressed air to completely bypass the cylinder and exit into the exhaust header, wasting the air. Cams with little or no overlap arent good in NA setups because the overlap aids the piston in expelling exhaust gas and improving engine efficiency.

I didnt leave anything out, did I?.... but i hope this helps....

Whoa, easy killer...

No matter what some random website thatis not affiliated with Nissan may say...NISMO does not make KA cams.

What the hell....???

I mentioned that to INFORM the newbs (yourself included, apparently) that for an S13, the Nissan Motorsports USA Stage 1 cams are not that great for an S13...

Did I direct that at you, or mock your statement...or say you're a moron?

No...all I did was post for clarification...on both points.

Now you got your panties all in a bunch...

Quote »Okay so quit starting stuff with me. [/quote]Again, what "stuff" did I start?

Did I call you names?

Did I direct any comment towards you in a demeaning or belittling manner?

You're apparently a keyboard hardass who wants to be a know-it-all...or you were just in a bad mood.

I hope it's the latter...

Yes in fact they do make the ka24de cams, you just wont admit it. Go and call your sources and find out. I have bought stuff from this site for a long time and i trust them.

People say "Nissan Motorsports USA" and "NISMO" interchangeably...I was only pointing out they are different comanies.

In this discussion, it's really of no consequence, and I didn't post to make a big deal of it.

Thank you there Simpleenigma. That's the information I was hoping for.

Lol... I just noticed I interchanged Nismo and Nissan Motorsports in my above post. I really didn't mean to do that.
