Anyone of those combinations will work just fine. This subject has been beat down to the ground and with a simple search, you should be able to see. Neither one of these profiles will produce gobs of power over 8000rpm, so get that part out of your head. If you want power above 8000rpm, you don't want a streetable car anymore. I would go with the 264/8.5mm. Why? Because I've used these with success and they are perfect for dual purpose street/strip. No idle issues and holds power past 7000rpm granted you have the right combination of components on duty.JDMSIL80 wrote:Looking for some opinions on HKS cams that I'm looking into.
My choices are 264 for both intake & exhaust, or having 264 intake and 272 exhaust.
Which combination would be better for overall power and how high of the revs can they make power to? Will I have any idle problems with the mix & match combo?
I'm just planning to use stock valvetrain to run these, since they only have 8.5 lift. Is 272 overkill for stock valvetrain since I wont be able to rev over 8000?
Any comments are welcome!
Not a substantial difference, but of course the 272s will hold the valves open longer. If you must know, I'll be using the 264/272 combo on my sentra. Actaully, it's already assembled, but I'm not interested in driving the car at the moment, but I will keep those interested informed.JDMSIL80 wrote:Seems like 264 on both intake & exhaust would be an ideal choice for my setup.
Just wondering, what kind of differences would I see going from 264 to 272 on the exhaust side only? Is it worth it in your opinion?

I'm sorry I didn't see this post before, but yes, I do have tuning experience with this set-up and I actually am using this exact set-up. You are correct in the fact that you will need extra fuel to compensate for the extra duration and lift of the aftermarket camshafts. I guess it's safe to say you are correct again in the fact that the chip you're using will indeed need to be programmed with the camshafts added in the formula. Hope this helps.......JDMSIL80 wrote:Dee: Did you have tunning experiences with 264/272 cams? Do these cams tend to make the car run a lot leaner and you need more fuel to compensate? Since they hold the valves longer allowing more air to go in the motor.
Reason I asked is because the Horshsam Stage 3 chip Im running is designed to use with stock internals. I wonder I'm able to get by with this program when putting in the cams, or its too risky of running lean.
What is your experience from the past?
Richard, get with as far as camshafts are concerned, I got a hook-up that I use and also highly recommend, so get with me when you're ready.Rookieca18det wrote:Sorry to bring up an old thread, but thats what happens when you search . Can you tell me where you were getting your cams from, or if any1 knows where I can get some 264's in/ex from for a decent price. Im gonna keep looking on Tak kaira and searching around google. Thanks.
