Are these things decent or a POS? I'm looking for a MIG welder for the occassional welding jobs. It won't be used too often, but will be used.

Check out Lincoln. Those are the one of the better brands I've used. Campbell Hausfeld I've got one of their air compressors though and it's decent for air tools but not for painting (too much pulse even with a regulator). I guess it depends on how much you're paying for the mig welder. But yeah their stuff is usually pretty decent. Try the Lincoln if you can put a little more into the welder.

They make good stuff. They have aplant in Ohio about 5 minutes from my house. It's right next to a turkey farm so don't be alarmed if you find a gizzard or a liver in the box.

At our machine shop at school, all we have are Lincoln welders. But is there that big of a difference in quality between the two to spend $440 on the Lincoln when I can get the Campbell for $200?

The campbell uses flux as shielding, not gas(one for $200). I've never used that type(always used the gas shielded welders), but are the welds comparable between the two types of shielding?

i was lookin at a cheapo campbell hausfeld flux core in walmart for $99 (that about says it all). From what i've gathered the flux cored do not produce as clean results as the gas shielded. I was hoping to squeak by on a single project use but now i'm not so sure.

I'm thinking about saving for the gas shielded one, even it its a campbell and not a lincoln.

i have a campbell flux core welder. it only has high/low settings for temp, and a knob for wire speed. if your looking at the same one i have, its upgradeable to a mig gas setup.

but, i also have a lincoln. the lincoln is definately worth the extra money, but if you just want to screw around and due little jobs, the campbell is fine. you can always sell it and up grade later.
