So, I plan to mount a camera inside my car, for track events etc. My question is, what is the best place to do so? the camera will not be permanently mounted, so I'll us e a bolt and damper for it.

my idea was: make a plate that bolts to the floor behind the console (I have no rear seats) and off the plate have a tube that goes upward, and on the top end have a plate with my bolt/damper setup.

what do you guys think? and info is appreciated.

My friend just took a piece of wood and drilled some holes, two for the s14 head rest and one for the camera. It is long enough that it sits the camera in the middle of the car. Plus no modification to the car at all, just remove the head rest and take it off.

In the same vein you could take a headrest and modify it to mount a cam and just hot swap it in the same way.

If you have OEM s13 seats then idk.

Lol, yes I have OEM s13 seats, and the seat I plan to put in the car does not have an adjustable headrest

I would ziptie it to your passenger seat. If its tight enough it shouldn't move. If you have a crappy dash then a piece of 3M double sided tape will do the trick too

http://www.chasecam.com/mount/suction/SM31 this is the one I use. In my NX2k I like it better from the top of the hatch.

I also tried off the rear 1/4 glass on my friends car it came out ok but I still like the view from the back better.

Have you looked at the GoPro cameras at all, excellent picture quality and they come with enough hardware to mount anywhere. I used one on my friends Super pro race truck at Thompson speedway, mounted it to the roll cage but there where so many options and the sound was great.
