So, last weekend I installed some JWT adjustable sprokets on my '95 ka24de. Car is basically stock, except AEM intake and SPEC stage 2 clutch.

Installed gears at 2.5 crank degrees of retard on intake, 5 degrees retard on exhaust.

Results: I will be doing a wheel dyno on Nov. 1, but so far the resutls are as follows: Car pulls hard to rev limiter. The torque curve seems very, very flat. Power increases very linearly well past 6k rpm. It appears as though I may have moved my sweet spot to beyond redline. Perhaps I am a little too retarded for my own good.

So, the next day I added 6 degrees of ignition timing and installed a $20 thrush muffler w/ a very conservative tip (a 2 1/4 inch peice of pipe cut at a slight angle). Should rust up nicely and look stock. Anyways, the results of this blew my mind. The car pulls much harder now everywhere on the dial.

After a few days like this, my ECU seems to have gotten the hang of things and the car rips. I'll have her on the dyno next weekend with some conclusive numbers. I am VERY curious about that torque curve.

As for the cam sprocket install, it went very smoothly. I didn't even replace my valve cover seal, and there is no leaking at all. It took about 3 hours, but only because we were being very, very cautious. Could do it again in a little over an hour.

If anyone has any idea what the stock overlap at .05 is supposed to be, that would be very, very helpful. In the meantime, go get yourself a set of cam sprockets. They were only $140 bucks. Combined with a $20 muffler, $12 in hangers and clamps, and about 8 hours of work, my car's personality is completely revamped. Although I can't yet prove I am making more power, the car is definately a lot more fun to drive. Plus, I swear it's hella faster.

Will update w/ dyno results. Hopefully I can get a scanner.

PEACE

P.S. My friend Bruce wanted everyone to know he assisted in the install (especially rebending my stock exhaust piping) and that he is a die-hard DSM guy. Go figure.

Put it on a dyno and play with the settings... typically most engines gain peak power with a small advance on the intake cam and a 2-3 degree retardation of the exhaust cam.

Then again not all engines are the same and the KA could be different.

The thing I'm most worried about is the valves colliding. I know the ka has pretty large valves considering the bore. I already added 2.5 degrees of overlap, and I'm worried about adding too much more. I know there is alot of dwell around TDC, which should be real good for scavenging, so I would like to add some more. Does anyone know how much overlap there is stock? Or for that matter, does anyone know the stock centerline of the cams?
