I have a 2004 Q45 that will start first time 99% of the time and some of those times i will have to leave key turned over a second or two longer to start. There are the occasional non starts, but wait a few seconds and try again and it works.

Could this be a cam shaft sensor going bad?

A mechanic buddy of mine which is pretty good at determining issues by descriptions i give him on other cars. I do the work if easy enough and they seem to be fixed after. I am looking for another possibility as part of my research.

One thing i did not disclose was i had starter replaced about 3 months ago, and battery replaced a yr ago.

Does the hard to start condition occur when the engine is warm?

That sensor should be a "check engine" item. On my wife's '05 G, when it failed it broke and stayed broken...

In her case, the hard start was accompanied by the "Check Engine" "VDC Off" and "Slip" lights.

My buddy was saying that the way it is acting, sounds like the sensor was failing. If you wait to replace it, you will regret it and will completely fail on you when you are out somewhere.
